At Cleveland Vision Center, we are centered in patient care with a goal of providing the best comprehensive eye care in a private office setting. We are passionate about helping our patients achieve their best vision and also manage any ocular diseases.
As an optometry technician, you will be one of the FIRST people our patients will interact with, by phone or in person. You will also work alongside doctors and various staff as well as coordinate care with other providers with a common goal of individualized care for each patient. Your role will mostly be preparing the patient for the doctor, explaining and performing preliminary testing, guiding patients through contact lens training, assist in verifying insurance benefits, as well as assisting with glasses selection and collecting payments. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometry Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and support within our optometry practice. This position involves assisting the optometrist with various tasks, ensuring a smooth workflow, and maintaining a welcoming environment for patients.

Job description duties (including but not limited to):
- Make and receive calls, schedule patients, and gather demographics
- Data entry
- Pulling medical and vision insurance benefits
- Consult with patients, accurately document existing conditions and complaints, chart medical history for the doctor
- Maintain a smooth flow of patients to the doctor
- Discuss and perform pretesting procedures
- Perform visual field testing and other diagnostic testing
- Take payments in person and over the phone
- Assist with physician referrals to obtain documentation
- Assist in all areas of the clinic (technician/optical) when needed
- Assist in glasses sales

Minimum Requirements:
- Experience in optometry /ophthalmology clinic
- Basic familiarity with HIPPA requirements

- Dedication to working on a multidisciplinary team toward common goals

Compensation: Based on experience
Benefits: After 1 year employee will receive paid vacation and sick days as well as the ability to participate in 401k match.
Schedule: currently: Monday-Thursday: 8:00AM - 5:00 PM; Friday 8:30 AM-12:00 PM: Subject to change

Responsibilities
- Assist the optometrist during eye examinations and procedures.
- Conduct preliminary tests including visual acuity, tonometry, and refraction.

- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the examination rooms and equipment.
- Provide front desk support including scheduling appointments and managing patient inquiries.
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care and eyewear options.
- Utilize electronic health record systems such as Epic for patient documentation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy related to the eye and common ophthalmic conditions.
Experience
- Previous experience in a medical office or optometry setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques in a clinical environment is advantageous.
- Experience working with pediatric patients is a plus.
- Strong understanding of ophthalmology terminology and procedures.
- Proficiency in taking vital signs and conducting basic health assessments.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
