What We’re Looking For :

Are you passionate about leading developers to build innovative software? Are you interested in using modern web technologies to unleash the power of our data and building elegant and scalable systems to help create innovative classroom learning experiences? You will lead a team of talented developers on all phases of software development including requirements definition, design, development, testing, integration, and deployment. You will architect our backend and front-end infrastructure and will have the opportunity to build large, web-based applications that serve thousands of users to drive proactive learning and support models for our instructors and students. You have experience shipping large scale products and in writing production-quality code in React, Go and Postgres / SQL and have experience in managing Salesforce software development. Importantly, you are open and collaborative and know how to motivate a team of remote developers. This individual is a senior leader in the Engineering and Architecture team, as well as a senior leader in the TechDev division.

Key Accountabilities :

  • Strategy (appropriate allocation of capital to value-oriented business objectives)
  • Operations (ongoing delivery of planned work while minimizing the impact of unplanned work)
  • Team (recruitment, retention and training of world-class software development teams)
  • Budget (managing budgets within allocated ranges)

This individual will partner closely with the VP of Platform Product Management and business stakeholders to ensure that technology supports the achievement of the key objectives in the business. They actively seek opportunities to drive software engineering excellence across portfolios and provide strategic context to technology choices. This individual will also work closely with other senior leaders in 2U to enable product line excellence.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To :

  • Be both a highly technical, hands-on coder and effective people manager
  • Perform architecture assessments and develop architecture definitions for the organization to build scalable products
  • Communicate cross-functionally and drive engineering efforts
  • Guide and mentor team members in software engineering best practices
  • Participate in requirements definition, technical design, coding, code reviews, and unit testing, and deployment
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering teams and business to ensure we continuously innovate and build world-class products
  • Developing and maintaining the 2U global software engineering retention, recruitment, and training program.
  • Defining and deploying software engineering functional best practices to drive software development productivity and output.
  • Things That Should Be In Your Background :

  • At least 10 years of software engineering or technology focussed leadership experience is required.
  • Experience managing large, globally deployed software development teams including a mix of on-premises and remote team members.
  • The ability to demonstrate effective technology leadership in complex, multi service enterprises with complex stakeholder requirements.
  • The ability to demonstrate leadership in implementing large, complex software or technology projects.
  • Experience in partnering with executive-level stakeholders to define and deploy software or technology to solve specific business objectives.
  • A degree in Computer Science or similar ICT fields is helpful, but not mandatory.
  • Other Attributes That Will Help You In This Role :

    This role will be expected to work after hours to manage or coordinate exceptional circumstances such as service degradation, service disruption or other unexpected technology behaviors.
