In this role, you'll spearhead initiatives to safeguard our workplace and environment, ensuring all practices adhere to legal standards and company policies. You'll collaborate closely with our teams to foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and enforce environmental policies to minimize our ecological footprint, focusing on waste management, stormwater, SPCC, resource conservation, and pollution prevention.
- Prepares and submits reports and obtains required operating permits.
- Includes significant participation and administration of the company’s ISO 14001 EMS program.
Safety Leadership:
- Design and implement safety and industrial hygiene protocols to prevent injury/illness incidents. Conduct regular risk assessments.
Compliance Assurance:
- Ensure all operations comply with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.
- Keep abreast of legislative changes and adapt our practices accordingly.
Incident Management:
- Lead investigations into environmental incidents and workplace mishaps, devising strategies to prevent future occurrences.
- Coordinate with Carson City Fire Department on various fire protection issues.
Program Development:
- Craft and manage comprehensive EHS programs, integrating best practices in environmental protection and occupational safety.
Training and Awareness:
- Conduct EHS training sessions for employees, promoting awareness and understanding of environmental and safety issues.
Emergency Response:
- Coordinate response plans for environmental and safety emergencies, including spill management and first aid response.
Performance Monitoring:
- Track, analyze, and report on EHS performance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as a key liaison with regulatory agencies, community organizations, and internal teams on EHS matters. May oversee vendor/supplier activities.
Fiscal:
- Develop cost estimates, capital expense requests, and purchase orders as required for achieving objectives of EHS projects.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Position is also expected to perform administrative tasks, filing, and reporting.
- Report immediately all suspicious and hazardous conditions to a supervisor.
- Understand and observe all safety guidelines and assure quality and safety by complying with all appropriate CB policies and procedures.
- Assist in maintaining clean, orderly and hazard-free work areas.
- Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and be detail oriented.
- Performs additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be prepared to perform a wide variety of tasks at a satisfactorily level.
- Deep knowledge of environmental and safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, State, local), with a strong ability to apply them in a manufacturing context.
- Proven experience in managing environmental programs (e.g., waste management, air and water quality) alongside occupational health and safety initiatives.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Strong communication and training abilities, capable of engaging diverse audiences.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams in a collaborative environment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as aerospace procedures, engineering requirements, technical procedures, safety rules, and quality assurance manual.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively.
- Speaks clearly and confidently in all situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions.
- Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; presents numerical data effectively.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage’s, draw and interpret graphs.
- Algebra, descriptive statistics, engineering/science calculations.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have excellent computer navigation skills as well as experience with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and PowerBi. CAD knowledge a plus.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering/Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
- Minimum seven years of practical experience in environmental and safety roles, with a preference for backgrounds in aerospace or manufacturing.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Relevant OSHA Certification: e.g. OSHA 30-hr, Certified Forklift Trainer, Arc-Flash NFPA 70e, 40-hr HAZWOPER, or previous Firefighter/EMT certification highly desirable.
- First Responder qualified CPR/First Aid/AED a plus.
- ASP/CSP, IHIT/CIH, RS, RM, CHMM, FE/ElT, PE strong plus.
