Description
Works under minimal supervision to develop, build, repair, and maintain production tools and tooling. Creates inspection gages and special fixtures. Follow standard work methods and practice safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reads and understands industry standard drawings to include geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Advanced use of most Tool Room equipment such as lathes, mills, and grinders to make parts to prescribed dimension.
- Possesses knowledge of tool steel grades, best uses, and heat treatment for various materials.
- Performs proper handling and labeling of hazardous and nonhazardous materials and wastes as directed by supervisor.
- Coordinates and collaborates with others to ensure smooth and efficient design, continuous improvement, and execution of processes.
- Participates in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Plan advanced sequences of operations for Fabricating.
- Verify dimensions using instruments such as scales, calipers, micrometers, indicators, comparators and gauge blocks.
- Able to perform all Preventive Maintenance duties.
- Follows Lean Principles.
- Performs proper handling and labeling of hazardous and nonhazardous materials and wastes as directed by supervisor.
- Complies with all Industry Standards (ISO, NADCAP etc.)
- Reports immediately all suspicious and hazardous conditions to a manager or Lead.
- Understands and observes all safety guidelines and assures quality and safety by complying with all appropriate CB policies and procedures.
- Assists in maintaining clean, orderly, and hazard-free work areas.
- Works with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and detail oriented.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
- Ability to use micrometers, calipers, drop gages and comparators.
- Basic workshop math.
- Basic computer navigation skills.
- CAD and CNC experience preferred.
- Ability to write and read English.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.) required. Associates degree preferred.
- Minimum 7 years toolmaking experience or equivalent training and experience
- Machine Tool Technology certification, Manufacturing Technician (MT1), National Institute of Metalworking Skills, inc. (NIMS), or equivalent experience required.

- Light physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Use of hand/fingers continuously through shift to manipulate components, tools, etc.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly required to sit or stand for the length of shift, bend and reach.
- Able to hear typical verbal instructions and common mechanical noises indicative of safe practices.
