The Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program is responsible for the leadership, organization, operation, and general administration of the Internal Medicine Residency Program sponsored by TriHealth. The Program Director establishes the strategic direction of the program and is responsible for the standards, quality, and reputation of the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize and direct the Internal Medicine Residency Program at TriHealth, including the organization of rotations and other educational activities at all clinical sites that participate in the program.
- Dedicate no less than 50% (at least 20 hours per week) of total professional effort to the administrative and educational activities of the internal medicine educational program.
- Be available and accessible to residents at the primary teaching site(s).
- Oversee development of an effective resident advising program.
- Supervise any Internal Medicine subspecialty training programs sponsored by the institution and linked to the core program to ensure compliance with the ACGME accreditation standards.
- Hold supervisory authority over all educational tracks in the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
- Ensure that the program does not place excessive reliance on residents for service as opposed to education.
- Maintain active clinical practice in Internal Medicine.
- Recruit and select candidates for the residency program through the National Residency Matching Program.
- Provide accurate statistical and narrative information in accordance with the requirements of the ACGME and the ACGME's Review Committee for Internal Medicine.
- Submit reports on program, faculty, and fellow performance to the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) as requested by the Chair of the GMEC.
- Ensure the implementation of policies and procedures consistent with the institutional and program requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of the accreditation and operational requirements of the residency program.
- Participate in the Graduate Medical Education Committee and other hospital committees as requested by the DIO and the Department Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine.
- Demonstrate scholarly activity as evidenced by activities such as peer-reviewed funding, publication of original research in a peer-reviewed journal, or presentation of case reports or clinical series at local, regional, or national professional and scientific society meetings.
