Role Description:
We seek a determined Financial Controller to oversee our firm's internal financial and accounting operations, and our client-facing accounting and tax practice. In this capacity, the right candidate will play an essential role by ensuring accuracy in accounting, financial management, and compliance with the law while supporting our firm's long-term strategy.
This role requires elevated financial and accounting acumen, discernment, communication skills, and an attitude toward problem-solving. Additionally, it requires demonstrated abilities to understand the firm's operations and the underlying relationships between inputs, outputs, and the processes that support them. This role begins with being “the numbers person” and extends to creating reports and analyses that support daily and strategic business decisions. Key Responsibilities:
- Stewardship: Protects and conserves a business’s resources and accurately reports on our financial position.
- Operator: Manages the finance, accounting, and tax organization and processes efficiently.
- Catalyst: Provides the correct information at the right time to support business execution.
- Strategy: Supports partners and leadership team, moving the company toward its mission and goals with financial information and analysis.
Key Duties:
- Approving invoices: Ensuring invoices are appropriately approved and coded in the general ledger.
- Cash flow management: Monitoring and balancing cash flows into and out of a business to meet obligations and optimize investment.
- Audit liaison: Coordinating with external financial, compliance, and tax auditors.
- Internal controls: Creating and monitoring company policies and internal controls, especially spending controls, to safeguard firm assets and reduce fraud risk.
- Budget: Own the budget process, including incorporating historical data and communicating any variances.
- Debt management: Administering loan agreements for firm borrowings and collecting any money owed to the firm from clients or external organizations.
- Financial strategy: Developing financial strategy, including risk minimization plans and opportunity forecasting.
- Compliance: Ensuring compliance with local law, tax provisions, and relevant industry and financial regulations.
- Reporting and analysis: Providing strong financial reporting and analysis to guide decision-making.
- Cost savings: Identifying efficiencies and opportunities for cost reductions across the business.
- Leadership: Mentoring, developing and managing the accounting, tax and financial operations team.
- Payroll: Handling payroll processing and labor tax compliance, including our 401k program.
- Client Billing: Owning and driving quarterly client billing and any transfer out / refund processes.
- External reporting: Preparing company tax and financial statements, including coordinating any public filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
- Banking: Overseeing bank accounts and managing banking relationships.
- Stakeholder management: Advising our leadership team on operations activities based on underlying business knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Proven integrity, confidentiality, and discretion in firm matters
- Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and effective process workflow
- Has an appreciation for and demonstrates teamwork
- Proficiency in using common office technology from a variety of providers (for example Google Suite, Orion, Schwab, Wealthbox, etc.) or high learning ability to quickly become proficient in these technology platforms
- Demonstrated proficiency in using common accounting – such as QuickBooks – or high learning ability to become proficient in these technology platforms quickly
- Understands how to use technology to solve problems and help others
- Effective communication skills on all platforms: personal, phone, text, instant Messenger
- Driven by curiosity and learning how things work and making them better
- Highly articulate and able to explain complex information clearly and simply
- Attention to detail and consistent, reliable accuracy with all data
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and develop team members
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and processes and work well with others
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information responsibly and with high discretion
- Strong collaboration, communication, analytical, organizational and leadership skills
- Experience in Accounting and Financial Services- Advantageous
- Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor - Extremely Advantageous
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - Extremely Advantageous
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
- 5 Years Experience - Extremely Advantageous
