Job Objective:
Under the supervision of a physician and following written guidelines of protocol, the Women's Health Nurse Practitioner/Certified Nurse Midwife provides obstetric and gynecological care to patients in a primary health care center setting.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Takes complete and accurate personal health histories, symptoms, physical conditions, or other diagnostic information.
- Performs screening physical examinations, including assessments and recommendations for further evaluation.
- Performs clinical procedures such as gynecological exams, injections, immunizations, biopsies, IUD insertions, Nexplanon implants and removals, family planning, suturing, taking cultures, etc.
- Provides prenatal, intrapartum, or postpartum care to patients.
- Screens laboratory and x-ray results, bringing abnormalities to physician's attention as needed.
- Diagnoses and treats, within limits of clinical competency, conditions requiring short or long-term management and coordinates follow-up care of patients.
- Consults with or refers patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice or expertise.
- Identifies patients' educational needs and assists with appropriate instruction.
- Keeps abreast of regulatory processes and payer systems such as Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and private sources.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including participation in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Must have a current unrestricted license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing.
- Certified Nurse Midwife License to practice in the State of California strongly desired.
- Proficiency with use of computers and experience with use of electronic health records.
- Must be a team player, be detailed oriented, and self-motivated.
