JOB OBJECTIVE
The Urgent Care Patient Services Representative (PSR) performs administrative duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology, services and procedures provided in a fast paced Urgent Care environment. Interacts with a multi-cultural population of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, ages and levels of education. Reports to the Health Center Manager and works under the direct supervision of the Lead Patient Services Representative.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The PSR is responsible for performing the following duties: Greets patients and assists with accurate registration and completion of intake forms. Answers phones and provides information on urgent care services. Verifies insurance eligibility; submits insurance authorization requests as required by insurances. Determines if patient qualifies for sliding fee program; refers patients to enrollment specialist when necessary. Works closely with back office staff to prioritize patients. Helps patients in distress by promptly notifying medical staff. Receives and posts payments with correct payer code to patient accounts. Collects payment at time of service. Processes requests for Release of Records. Reviews daily charges and consolidates personal bank at end of shift. Updates patient files utilizing Electronic Health Records. Scans documents into proper categories in patients’ electronic health record. Successfully completes six-month and annual skills and competency checklist. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential in compliance with HIPAA regulations Provides excellent customer service to patients, vendors and employees. Interacts in a professional manner and works collaboratively with Clinicas’ staff and patients. Works in a fast-paced environment and proactively analyze and resolve problems. Adheres to front desk policies and procedures. May assist patients with mental illness, substance abuse problems and or/emotional disturbance. Performs other duties as assigned including participation in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required. - Must have one year of clerical and/or customer service experience in a medical, dental, optometry or mental health office. Urgent care experience preferred. - Proficiency with use of computers and basic programs is required. Previous experience with Electronic Health Records system is desirable. - Must be bilingual English/Spanish. - Knowledge of Medi-cal and insurance billing requirements is desirable, including ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT codes. - Must communicate professionally and effectively in writing and orally; accurate spelling and grammar are necessary. - Must have the ability and desire to provide excellent customer service in a fast paced environment. - Must have knowledge of basic medical terminology. - Must have the ability to establish effective relationships with patients and fellow staff; be a team player, self-motivated and detail oriented. - Maintains a neat and professional image. - Must be available to work a flexible schedule including extended shifts, weekends and/or holidays. - Must have reliable transportation.
