PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER I
Job Title: Parks Maintenance Worker I, II, III, IV
Department: Public Works
Reports To: Parks Supervisor
Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Wage Scale: Maintenance I $19.84 - $28.90/hr.
Maintenance II $21.41 - $31.19/hr. (Certification needed)
Maintenance III $23.61 – 34.40/hr. (2 Certifications needed)
Maintenance IV $26.01 – 37.89/hr. (3 Certifications needed)

Hours: 40 hours per week (7am - 3:30pm)
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for performing a variety of entry-level duties related to the construction, installation, maintenance, upkeep and repair of buildings, park facilities, parks, grounds, etc.; Perform routine parks facilities maintenance; Perform general landscape and gardening duties, including but not limited to: Assisting in the installation of irrigation systems and repairs, Operating turf maintenance equipment, Pruning trees, shrubs and plants, applying fertilization/herbicide, using dry and liquid chemicals; winterizing irrigation systems, and various park facilities/amenities; Maintenance of all park’s equipment & machines; Ability to mark, dig, and backfill burials in the cemetery; Perform ‘On Call’ duties, periodically, throughout the year, which includes: working as necessary on weekends, holidays and after-hours: Maintain a productive working environment, including but not limited to: a spirit of cooperation with co-workers, peers and the public; Other duties as assigned by the Parks Supervisor / Crew Leader, or Public Works Director.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Some knowledge of horticulture, planting, cultivating, pruning, and general care for plant, trees, shrubs and flowers; application of pesticides, fertilization, and soil amendments; drainage control, sprinkler system operation and maintenance, several types of heads, automatic controllers; maintenance of all grounds keeping equipment; reading of landscape drawings and blue prints, installation of parks.
Skill in the operation of heavy mechanized equipment as required by the position, including snow plow/salt spreader, front-end loader, back hoe, bobcat, trenching machine, welding equipment, etc.
Ability to work weekends and holidays when needed; maintain safe working conditions; respond effectively and make responsible decisions in emergency or unusual situations; follow written and oral instructions; to establish and maintain good working relationships with employee’s, supervisors and the public; perform manual or strenuous physical labor on a limited basis; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, reach with hand and arms, talk, hear, see, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, use hands to grab and handle or feel and lift 50 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 pounds. Duties require sufficient mobility and require the employee to be able to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to generally loud noise or very loud noise (ex. Large earth-moving equipment, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, blowers, etc). Work is performed primarily in outdoor settings and in all weather conditions. Individual is exposed to hazards associated with lawn and building maintenance including smoke, noxious odors, fumes, chemicals, liquid chemicals, solvents, and oils. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Eighteen (18) years of age or older
- Valid Driver’s License
- High School Diploma or GED, and
- One (1) year of related experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience
- Pre-Employment Background, random drug / alcohol testing
- Must obtain CDL during probationary period: Clinton City will assist and cover basic costs, and training associated with obtaining this license
