Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Sewer and Storm Drain Supervisor, the Seasonal Maintenance Worker works alongside a full-time crew member in the Sewer and Storm Drain Department. This position performs routine maintenance and repair tasks to help ensure the City’s sewer, storm drain, and land drain systems are functioning properly. Duties include assisting in cleaning sewer and storm drain lines using a hydro vac truck, clearing debris from drainage systems, and performing general labor and support tasks to aid the department in day-to-day operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assists with the operation of sewer jetting and vacuum equipment (hydro vac truck) to clean and maintain sewer and storm drain lines.
· Clears debris from catch basins, manholes, storm inlets, and culverts.
· Helps inspect sewer and storm drain systems using camera equipment and inspection logs.
· Assists with the maintenance and repair of manholes, drainage grates, and pipeline structures.
· Performs general labor including shoveling, raking, lifting, and other physically demanding tasks.
· Maintains tools and equipment in good working order; reports needed repairs.
· Follows safety procedures and practices while working in confined spaces, near traffic, and around heavy equipment.
· Completes daily work logs and reports under supervision.
· Supports other Public Works divisions as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
· Must be at least 18 years of age.
· High school diploma or GED preferred.
· Previous experience in construction, maintenance, or public works is desirable but not required.
Licenses and Certifications:
· Must possess a valid Utah driver’s license.
· Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
· Willingness to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
· Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
· Ability to learn safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and light equipment.
· Self-motivated and dependable with a strong work ethic.
Working Conditions:
· Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
· May require lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, bending, and walking for extended periods.
· May involve exposure to unpleasant odors, wastewater, confined spaces, and hazardous conditions.
· Typically works 40 hours per week; may include some evenings or weekends depending on operational needs.
