This role requires a hands-on leader with automotive knowledge, strong organizational skills, and the ability to mediate conflicts effectively. The Transportation Coordinator will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the district’s transportation system, including school buses, activity buses, and other vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Vehicle Maintenance & Repair:
- Maintain and repair all CUSD15 vehicles (school buses, activity buses, passenger vans, maintenance vehicles, driver’s education vehicles, and snow removal vehicles).
- Perform minor bodywork and coordinate with dealerships or repair shops for complex repairs.
- Conduct general maintenance, including tire inspections, fluid changes, interior repairs (e.g., bus seats), and installation/maintenance of video surveillance systems.
- Wash and clean vehicles regularly.
- Logistics & Scheduling:
- Coordinate scheduling for sporting/activity trips and alternative student placement transportation.
- Develop and maintain an effective organizational system for logistics management.
- Conflict Mediation & Management:
- Mediate conflicts with parents regarding transportation policies, ensuring clear communication and resolution.
- Manage and resolve scheduling or assignment conflicts within the Transportation Department, fostering a fair and collaborative team environment
- Vendor & Inventory Coordination:
- Collaborate with vendors for warranty claims, repairs, and parts procurement.
- Maintain detailed records of invoices, repair logs, and parts inventory.
- Grounds & Equipment Maintenance:
- Repair and maintain the bus parking lot (e.g., patching, painting lines) and assist with snow removal in designated areas.
- Training & Compliance:
- Willing to become certified to train new bus and van drivers.
- Support vehicle bidding and procurement processes.
- Diesel or automotive certificate preferred but not required.
- General knowledge of automotive repair and a willingness to learn (training provided as needed).
- Valid CDL (Class B) with school bus endorsement or willingness to obtain.
- Possession of personal tools required.
- Strong organizational skills and proficiency in email communication.
- Proven ability to mediate conflicts calmly and effectively while leading a team.
- 8 hours per day (12 month position)
- 6:00 AM – 11:00 AM (5 hours)
- 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (3 hours)
