Job Overview
Under guidance of the Senior Technician, responds and repairs gas leaks, performs safe and professional repair and servicing of natural gas appliances for residential and commercial customers. Reports to the Field Customer Service Supervisor.
III. Principle Accountabilities include:
· Performs servicing of natural gas appliances for residential customers. Diagnoses malfunctions in and performs minor natural gas appliance repairs, cuts on and off gas, and install residential meters.
· Act as a first responder on emergency odors
· Assist in the installation and repair underground service lines and gas pipes. Inspects pipes and other equipment for gas leaks, tests for the presence of carbon monoxide.
· Receives and responds to inquiries, requests, and complaints from customers; provides information or refers problems to appropriate personnel.
· Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including work orders, leak reports, time sheets, wiring diagrams, vehicle maintenance reports, parts lists, daily work reports, etc.
· Primarily interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Senior Installation Technician, Supervisors, co-workers, and customers.
· Assist Senior Technician with the training of Associate Technicians.
Secondary Duties:
· Assists in maintaining an organized inventory of tools and materials used in daily tasks.
· Accurately records labor and materials used for individual jobs to ensure proper customer billing.
· Provides support to the Installation Group.
· Is on call for after-hours and weekend emergencies according to schedule.
· Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as a telephone, radio, heaters, dryers, furnaces, kitchen appliances, mechanic's tools, diagnostic instruments, hand tools, power tools, pipe locators, leak detector, various meters, gauges, etc. May operate a backhoe and trencher to install/repair gas lines.
· Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly workplace.
· Adheres to and enforces applicable safety standards.
· Assist in the fueling and maintenance of vehicle used in daily tasks.
· Performs related duties as required.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
IV. JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Minimum 1 year of experience in a related field
· Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
· Demonstrated computer Skill
· Demonstrated interpersonal skills
· Within 24 months, obtain and maintain pertinent Operator Qualifications and successfully perform job related skills as required.
Desired qualifications:
· Associates Degree in a Technical Field
· 3 years’ experience in natural gas industry.
· Possess and maintain a valid state of South Carolina commercial driver's license.
· Electrical experience
· Heavy equipment operation
· Welding Experience
Physical Requirements:
· Work is minimally strenuous but may require exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body; will involve walking or standing for extended periods of time. Primarily works outdoors and may involve working during inclement weather. Must be able to walk over uneven terrain.
· Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and out-town, as needed.
