Description
The Director of Human Resources carries out responsibilities for the following functional areas across 5 companies—Clipper Petroleum, Chicken City Bo’s, True North Energy Solutions, Explorers Transport and Djay Energy: Employee Relations, Training and Development, Benefits & Leave Administration, Employment Law, HR Compliance, Payroll, Worker’s Compensation, Performance Management, Talent Management, Recruitment, and Strategic partnership with Operations. This role is equally tactical and strategic, and requires the ability to balance both well.
The Director of Human Resources should be autonomous in regularly evaluating and recommending new approaches, policies and procedures to affect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed, and working harmoniously beside Field Operations partners. The Director of Human Resources has 3 direct reports: HRBP, HR Specialist, and Office Manager.
Essential Functions
Training and Talent Management
1. Advises HR team on proper disciplinary procedures.
2. Works closely with operations to team to recruit talent in the field.
3. Hosts job fairs, talent days, etc. Expected to work with operations team to come up with creative ways to recruit new talent for our c-stores, subways, and Bojangles’ operations.
4. Coaches and counsels supervisors and managers regarding laws, policy interpretation and proper procedures.
5. Participates in, communicates and creates training for the annual review process for all hourly and salary team members.
6. Creation and/or upkeep of companies’ personnel handbook
Employee Relations
1. Advises management of possible action steps to resolve team member relations issues.
2. Researches, identifies, and reviews team member relations issues/concerns with Operations.
3. Acts as a liaison on behalf of team members and management to address issues & concerns as necessary.
4. Conducts accurate and timely team member investigations. Documents thoroughly, follows up regularly, and exercises duty of care.
5. Participates in store visits alongside HR team to understand morale and proactively address concerns.
6. Review and approve all involuntary terminations
7. Set up, maintain and analyze weekly and monthly Employee Relations reports. Communicate concerning trends to Operations.
8. Facilitate conflict resolution between team members.
9. Respond to EEOC requests timely and alongside company appointed legal representation.
10. Assist in outside investigations and respond to agency charges and claims.
11. Regular participation in Operations meetings for all companies.
Compliance and Safety
1. Explains content & importance of compliance with governmental rules, regulations and procedures to team members and Operations as circumstances warrant.
2. Administer 401(k) program and twice-yearly benefits enrollments. Partner closely with company appointed brokers/TPAs
3. Work alongside Operations Department Heads to ensure that company policy is followed and legal obligations to team members are met to minimize risk to the Company and maximize team member morale.
4. Evaluate and administer leaves of absence, FMLA, and ADA accommodation requests, while meeting legal requirements and duty of care.
5. Ensures state and federal regulations with hiring practices
6. Develops and maintains necessary regulatory records; maintain other records, reports and logs to conform to federal, state, and local regulations.
7. Cooperate and respond timely with all OSHA requests.
Administrative/ Other
1. Assists Operations with monthly reports including HR Scorecard, Safety Scorecard, and Attrition and Turnover Reports.
2. Leads Corporate events, i.e. Holiday Parties, Fun Friday, Employee Appreciation Days, Health Fairs, etc.
3. Models the Clipper values in the department and throughout the company
4. Train HR team to be a backup when HR Director is traveling or out of the office.
5. Maintain high standard of confidentiality.
6. Maintain high level of integrity and stands up for what is right, judicious and fair.
7. Provide for yearly insurance renewals.
8. Administer the 401K program.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
5 years of Human Resource experience at the site level and/or in the field is required.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management/Business or the equivalent experience is required. Human Resources Certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) preferred.
Proven track record of applying team member relations principles, applicable laws and regulations required.
Minimum of 5 years team member relations experience preferred to include full life cycle investigation and resolution of complex team member relations issues.

Other Requirements
· A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to retail sites ( /- 90 miles) is required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time managerial position. You will be expected to work Monday through Friday, 8-5 PM – minimum 45 hours per week. You will be expected to be available at all hours to field calls and address urgent employee issues, which included evenings, weekends and holidays.
