What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cut Lister / Cabinet Design Engineer position at Closet Factory - Boston?

We are looking for a problem solver and experienced custom cabinet designer with CAD experience. You do not need experience in the home improvement industry to find success.

Key Responsibilities:
Achieving and maintaining key performance targets.
- Ensure clients’ jobs are designed and cut listed properly to enable smooth installation and minimize rework.
- Ensure machining instructions from both KCD and Cut Right software are working properly and producing error-free parts.
- Identify and order materials and special orders to ensure no delays in manufacturing and installation due to material/parts availability.
- Work with Designers to identify any design elements that are unclear or need further explanation.
Maintain and work within our SalesForce.com system and ensure all available cut list projects are completed and updated immediately. Report late or incomplete designs/missing paperwork to a supervisor to be sure cut lists are available to the shop floor for on-time manufacturing.
Ensure all parts necessary for the installation are clearly identified. These include special orders, inventoried parts (slides/hinges/lineal/etc.).
- Work with purchasing on all special orders and materials are available once production begins.
- Have all open questions or concerns addressed prior to the job going to the manufacturing floor.
- Review finished job carts and that they are kitted properly and that job information is well identified with client name/number prominently displayed for easy identification.
Be able to read and effectively communicate designs/plans and identify exceptions
- Understand the fundamentals of design and design rules; act as a second check to ensure design will work as presented.
- Have a thorough understanding of CAD software being used: KCD and Cutright as well as manual cut lists.
- Maintain parts/machining libraries and coordinate any changes with manufacturing, sales and installation.
- Verify jobs and produced parts are made per plans and client requirements.
- Work with production and installation to ensure all CAD related software instructions are correct.
- Review any unclear jobs with sales/management personnel.
- Meet with sales personnel on a regular basis to provide feedback and suggestions for design accuracy.
- Ensure all computer equipment is updated, backed-up, and maintained.
- Keep your work area clean and well organized.
- Get cross trained on as many areas of Factory operations as possible. Keep a record of your training.
- Become forklift certified in case you need to receive a delivery when Shop personnel are out of the office.
- Be knowledgeable of software utilized to run major manufacturing equipment.
Position Requirements:
- Be available and comfortable to speak to Customers about questions/concerns they may have during installation.
- Be a creative problem solver.
- Fluency in English.
- Experience construction and use of hand and power tools.
- Cabinet making and design experience with CAD required.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check.
- Physical ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and perform tasks like standing, kneeling, and reaching.
- US citizen and must reside in the Greater Boston Area.
