CLOVERLAND ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE AUTO / TRUCK MECHANIC
STATUS : UNION, NON-EXEMPT, HOURLY JOB CODE : 55-2421
1. POSITION FUNCTION / OBJECTIVE
Repair, maintain, and test propane, diesel, and gasoline vehicles and associated equipment. Mechanics are expected to stay abreast of industry standards and are expected to adhere to all Michigan Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration rules and regulations. The mechanics may provide maintenance and repair services, or consultative services, for all Cooperative fleet transportation, and accessory equipment.
2. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- On a regular or frequent basis is expected to perform job planning, material requisitions, job set-up, and completion so that employees and the community are properly safeguarded at all times.
- Responsible to see that tools, equipment, and stock are sufficient to complete assigned work. Accounts for all material, equipment, and tools utilized for project completion.
- Document work and record findings as required. Report to supervisors any abnormal conditions that develop during the process of work.
- Promote and follow safety consciousness and compliance. Observes all traffic rules and regulations while operating company vehicles.
- Is expected to complete all required paperwork regarding work orders and service orders.
- Is expected to work with the Director of Operations to establish and follow a maintenance program for regular testing and for the replacement of the cooperative fleet.
- On a daily basis must be able to observe and listen to vehicles in operation to determine malfunction, and then determine the appropriate course of action for repair.
- Is expected to maintain, install, and repair all systems currently in use by the Cooperative, as well as keep abreast on new technology. Align front wheels, change or recharge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts as determined by supervision and mechanic working together as a team.
- Is expected to maintain, repair, and overhaul gas, propane, or diesel engines.
- Will provide examination of protective guards; loose bolts; electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and related systems, including specified safety devices on Cooperative equipment; and make repairs and adjustments.
- Will lubricate, maintain, and repair moving parts, drives, etc., on power operated equipment, light vehicles, and general equipment to manufacturer's specifications, MDOT, and industry standards, etc.
- May be responsible for fabrication of special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings.
- At times, the mechanic may be responsible for other employees or contractors during the inspection, repair, and maintenance of our automotive and truck fleet. Perform the work in accordance with the equipment manufacturer's and organization's policies, procedures, and applicable law. Responsibilities include training employees, planning and performing work, ordering parts and supplies, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
- Will be expected to perform analysis, using electronic test equipment, for fleet and make necessary repairs.
- Reasonably respond to after-hours mechanical issues when not actively on call.
- As directed by the Cooperative, may be required to attend trainings and seminars.
- Performs other related duties and assumes other responsibilities as requested or directed.

This position is union, non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Non-exempt employees are paid on an hourly basis. Overtime shall be paid per the contractual agreement.
