This position provides the on-going support, maintenance, and implementation of cooperative technology and communication systems as directed by IT department staff.

This position provides the on-going support, maintenance, and implementation of cooperative technology and communication systems as directed by IT department staff.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Within the guidelines provided by board policies, operating policies and procedures, approved work plans, budgets and delegation from the Director of Information Technology, the IT Systems Specialist assumes the responsibility and has authority for the following activities:
- Performs routine, daily support and maintenance of all servers, networking & communication equipment, and computers (including desktops, laptops, and mobile devices) as needed or directed.
- Performs application, O/S and database software updates, patches, maintenance, repairs, and restorations as needed or directed.
- Performs backup support and maintenance for servers, applications and databases as needed or directed.
- Supports and maintains policies and practices for ensuring the security, integrity, availability, retention and acceptable use of the information and data in the IT systems.
- Performs and coordinates application end-user training and support, daily, and throughout any software and hardware upgrades or conversions as needed.
- Performs and coordinates hardware and software vendor technical support as needed to ensure continued system operations and resolving issues impacting these systems.
- Supports and maintains integrated data exchanges between systems (Multi-speak & Import/Export processes) as needed or directed by IT staff.
- Assist with the development of long-term planning and goal setting to preserve and protect the integrity, reliability, and investment in these information systems.
- Provides internal expertise in the use, operation, and suitability of cooperative technology and applications to all departments of the cooperative.
- Provides support and assistance to IT staff as needed and directed, and works with IT staff on other systems, projects, tasks and department goals as needed and directed.
- Implement and maintain communications and network equipment infrastructure required to keep these information systems operational.
- Performs the implementation and maintenance of network and system security including routers, firewalls, switches, controllers, and access point devices as directed by IT staff.
- Supports and maintains software security and control applications including content management, device management, endpoint/client security and protection applications as directed by IT staff.
- Performs the installation and maintenance of network and telecommunication cabling & equipment within cooperative facilities.
- Performs the installation and maintenance of datacenter racks and equipment including servers, storage systems, backup power units, power distribution equipment, networking equipment and associated cabling and monitoring devices.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
- AUTHORITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Reports to the Director of Information Technology, ensuring that there is an open line of communication regarding all work in progress and completion of tasks and duties that are assigned.
- Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, the Information Technology Systems Specialist will carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position in conformity with established policies and procedures.
- Is accountable to his/her supervisor and the management of the Cooperative for the efficient performance of these responsibilities and that, although some of the responsibilities may be delegated or assigned to another person, the accountability cannot be.

Education And Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree related to computer sciences, computer systems, networking technology or related/similar technical areas of study preferred. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
- Relevant accredited certifications will be considered with 2-3 years of documented work experience.
- Minimum of 2-3 years documented work experience with network operation, maintenance, and security including router and switch configuration (Dell or HP/Aruba networking equipment preferred).
- Broad knowledge of technology and communication principles and practices.
- Ability to coordinate, schedule and multi-task.
- Ability to maintain records and documentation, develop training materials and manuals, and implement staff training sessions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, managers, members, vendors and service providers.
- Working knowledge of utility operations, metering and billing practices, and electric power systems.
- Detailed knowledge of Microsoft networking, active directory, MS/365 office & cloud applications.
- Extensive knowledge and documented experience with computers, servers and network equipment including Microsoft server operating systems, VMware virtual environment, Microsoft Azure, and Dell/HP/Aruba networking.
- Working knowledge of MS-SQL databases, Oracle database applications and SAP Crystal Reports.
- Detailed knowledge of information technology practices involving system security, reliability and backup, restoration, and recovery.
- Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP networks, routing & switching, and remote management of equipment.
- Detailed knowledge of mobile devices, cellular devices and wireless devices.
- Detailed knowledge of wired communications including telephone systems, digital services, private and public network services, and point-to-point services.
- Demonstrated experience with computer systems, applications, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of basic office equipment including copiers, scanners, printers and plotters.
- Must be able to maintain complete confidentiality in the performance of job duties and responsibilities.

- Work is performed typically in a climate-controlled office environment at a desk with minimal physical exertion. Position requires repetitive motions with hands and fingers for keyboarding. Must be able to adhere to deadlines and work independently. Accessible via mobile technology (cell phone, email, other mobile devices) 24 hours a day for timely response during emergencies.
- Travel is mostly within the Cooperative's service area service centers, outbuildings, and radio tower sites. Occasional travel to trainings, seminars and/or conferences outside the service area may be required. Must be willing to work outside of regular business hours, as needed to complete tasks and meet deadlines. Must possess a valid driver's license.
