Job Summary:
The Data Architect role is to lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable, high-performing modern data solutions across Software-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service environments. This role blends deep technical expertise with strategic thinking and hands-on problem-solving — including modernization of legacy systems, integration of emerging technologies, and cross-functional collaboration to support enterprise-wide data initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain enterprise data architecture, including conceptual, logical, and physical models to support both operational and analytical workloads.
- Understand, document, and enhance moderately complex, disparate legacy systems—ensuring they evolve to meet modern standards.
- Reverse-engineer and improve legacy T-SQL code by applying newer, more efficient techniques and industry best practices.
- Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes to improve data delivery —including opportunities for automation, low code / no code solutions, AI, and machine learning integration.
- Architect and support cloud-based and hybrid data platforms (e.g., Azure, Microsoft Fabric, AWS, Amazon RDS, Databricks, or similar), ensuring scalability, availability, and performance.
- Develop robust batch and streaming pipelines for large-scale data ingestion and processing.
- Implement and enforce standards for data quality, lineage, governance, security, and cataloging.
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements, solve complex problems, and deliver data-driven solutions.
- Support business intelligence and analytics initiatives (Power BI, Paginated Reports, SSRS) by ensuring reliable, timely access to curated data through data warehouses, lakes, and marts.
- Lead initiatives in performance tuning, disaster recovery, data compliance, and data observability.
- Stay up to date on industry trends and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- 10 years of experience in Information Technology, with 7 years as a Data Architect.
- 5 years of experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred, AWS acceptable).
- Demonstrated ability to modernize legacy systems and codebases, especially in T-SQL and SQL Server environments.
- Expertise in data modeling (ER, dimensional / cube, data lakes), data integration (ETL/ELT), and pipeline orchestration (e.g., Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or similar tools).
- Hands-on experience with modern data architecture patterns, including data lakes and lake houses.
- Proficient in SQL and scripting for automation and performance optimization.
- Familiar with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket, Azure Dev Ops Platform), and scheduling and alerting systems.
- Strong understanding of data governance, cataloging, and metadata management.
- Ability to effectively communicate with both technical and business audiences; skilled at presenting architectural decisions and trade-offs.
