CLX Engineering’s PLC Field Technician II is an advanced industrial electrical technician. Field Tech II is becoming proficient in concepts of controls systems and demonstrates the ability to efficiently support troubleshooting and commissioning with Integration Engineers at client sites and during project completions. Field Tech IIs are required to travel to clients and work with some independence trouble shooting and commissioning tasks, specifically using PLC systems such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, or Beckhoff. Ideal candidates are comfortable working in high pressure situations and interact with both external and internal customers to support the efficient resolution of problems. Field Tech IIs must be able to work effectively with lead Integration Engineers and communicate efficiently with all project stakeholders to ensure the smooth completion of short- and long-term projects.
PLC Field Technician II’s work environment may be airports, entertainment or other manufacturing spaces, or our internal Panel Shop. Work tasks range from basic PLC programming to assisting the CLX facility maintain a great, functioning workspace. On occasion, they may be asked to wire panels or other manufacturing tasks. The position works in often hot, cold, and dirty work environments and physical requirements can include ascending slip or ship ladders, navigating obstacles, operating in low light, and occasionally maneuvering through confined spaces.
PLC Field Technician II’s are non-exempt level, hourly paid positions reporting directly to the Manager, Controls Engineering. An essential function of the position is working in both day and middle of the night shifts and travel up to 85% depending on the project. This is not an entry level position, and we cannot sponsor work authorization visas.
Responsibilities:
- Read electrical schematics, troubleshoot issues and produce electrical prints in design
- Create control panels from electrical prints or schematics
- Become familiar with PLC controls and begin troubleshooting and editing
- Execute ideas that make control systems more efficient
- Observe systems, locate and resolve issues with control components
- Proficient knowledge of electrical and controls devices and their application in systems
- Knowledge of safety practices (use of PPE, situational dangers)
- Proficient use of hand and powered tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, grinders, etc.)
- Competent use of electrical testing devices (multi-meters)
- Knowledge of common computer software (Microsoft Office, internet, etc.)
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or AS Degree with equivalent, applied experience
- At least 2 years’ experience in the industrial automation or processing automation industries reading and utilizing electrical schematics.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to stay calm in high pressure situations
- Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles, have a clean driving record, and maintain required auto insurance liability coverage.
- Work non-standard hours (nights and weekends)
- Travel locally with little or no notice
- Pass initial and random drug screenings and pass both internal and TSA level background checks
- Present a professional demeanor and appearance
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical
- Experience troubleshooting and editing PLC Software (Studio or Logix 5000) or equivalent (i.e., Siemens, Allen Bradley, Beckhoff)
