The Accounting Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the travel and expense policy and reimbursements, managing the travel program and related vendor relationships, review of vendor payments, sales and use tax reporting, payroll responsibilities, other assigned responsibilities and projects. This role reports to the Payroll & AP Manager and works closely with other departments. This role is based in Kansas City, Missouri with an office or hybrid work plan.
Primary responsibilities:
- Manage travel program and related vendor relationships
- Review and process employee travel and expense reports in compliance with company policies
- Coordinate with business partners to resolve travel and reimbursement issues
- Prepare and conduct travel and expense training for employees
- Verification and review of processed invoices and purchase orders ensuring proper coding and application of transactional tax
- Troubleshoot issues related to supplier payments and/or credits
- Prepare settlement runs for checks, EFT and wire transactions
- Interact with bank on file submissions and positive pay exceptions
- Lead system upgrades and enhancements; trouble shoot issues for resolutions
- Assist with payroll processing and stock administration
- Prepare sales and use tax filings
- Build advanced system reports (Workday/Excel)
- Assist with annual financial statement audit and related audit requests
- Additional projects and responsibilities as needed or assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field
- Experience working in similar role or the ability to demonstrate success with role and responsibilities
- Proficient computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills
- Effective communication skills to interact with employees at all levels of the organization and others outside of the organization
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Attention to accuracy and detail
- Strong initiative to seek knowledge, understand, problem solve and innovate
