What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Manager position at CMC Foods?
OPERATIONS MANAGER
CMC Foods is seeking a high-performing Operations Manager to lead and coordinate the day-to-day production and operations of our oil packaging facility. This role sits at the center of people, process, and product — managing floor operations, communicating with vendors and customers, and ensuring production meets the highest standards for food safety, efficiency, and service.
This is a fast-paced, high-expectation role that requires strong leadership, emotional intelligence, and the ability to navigate both proactive planning and reactive problem-solving. The ideal candidate is not only organized and process-oriented but thrives on being challenged, supporting the team throughout the day, and guiding a diverse team to success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage and align production schedules, material ordering, vendor coordination, and employee schedules to ensure seamless daily operations.
- Respond quickly and professionally to customer and vendor inquiries, confirming and scheduling POs, and troubleshooting with urgency and clarity.
- Build and maintain a “Safety-First” culture, upholding high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and compliance (GMP, SQF, HACCP, OSHA, FDA).
- Effectively lead a diverse team, managing conflict with maturity, supporting individual growth, and promoting accountability and ownership.
- Confidently make decisions based on available information, while being willing to ask questions or seek clarity when needed.
- Maintain composure under pressure and a positive attitude in the face of frequent interruptions, questions, and oversight — understanding these are part of maintaining food safety and operational excellence.
- Proactively create space for strategic planning, process improvements, and long-term problem solving even in a reactive environment.
- Collaborate across departments (warehouse, maintenance, quality, corporate) to maintain continuity and shared success.
- Identify root causes of production issues, implement corrective actions, and follow through to ensure resolution.
- Analyze production data and trends to continuously improve efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize employee performance and training.
- Develop and refine training programs, cross-training, and development plans that build stronger, more capable production teams.
- Clearly communicate expectations, issues, and updates to leadership, team leads, and all relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate production reports and ensure inventory reconciliation, forecasting, and documentation standards are met.
- Serve as a liaison for customer complaints and follow-up actions in collaboration with sales and food safety personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree in business or a related industry
- 2 years of experience in operations, food production, or logistics in a supervisory or management capacity
- Be able to work 50-60 hours a week
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-volume production environments with direct customer/vendor communication
- Strong working knowledge of food safety compliance, regulatory standards, and production reporting
- Outstanding emotional intelligence, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and stay composed in a reactive work environment
- Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and production systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform duties on the production floor when needed
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
REQUIRED TRAINING:
As a condition of employment, the selected candidate must complete a 2–4 week training program at our Kansas City facility, scheduled Monday through Friday prior to joining the Atlanta team. This training is designed to immerse you in our production standards, food safety protocols, and company culture.
