Senior Tax Manager, U.S. State & Local Tax
Our client, a leading global organization, is seeking a Senior Tax Manager, U.S. State & Local Tax to provide broad support to their U.S. State & Local Tax function. This role will report into the Group Tax division and will be responsible for supporting both direct and indirect tax aspects of core operations, including the use of tax technologies, data, and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Tax:
- Support financial statement reporting and tax return compliance for U.S. state and local taxes.
- Assist in transactional data modeling, timely review of notices, and administration of audits by governmental taxing authorities.
- Collaborate extensively with the tax return outsourcer, middle office organization, and Group Tax.
Indirect Tax:
- Provide technical support to business partners and middle office teams responsible for monthly indirect tax compliance.
Tax Technology:
- Utilize tax reporting systems, compliance software, and data retrieval tools.
- Work with ERP systems that underpin U.S. corporate income tax provision and return preparation processes.
Main Responsibilities
- Tax Reporting: Support quarterly financial statement reporting, using the Longview Tax system to calculate tax balances, track payables, and assess valuation allowances.
- Tax Compliance: Coordinate with Group Tax and external providers to extract and review data for tax return preparation and filings. Assist in quarterly estimated tax calculations and extension payments.
- Tax Notices/Audits: Assist in reviewing tax notices and supporting audits, including retrieving electronically stored data and corresponding with auditors.
- Business Partnering: Work closely with internal teams, middle office personnel, and service providers to efficiently support the U.S. State & Local Tax function.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in a tax role within public accounting or private industry.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. state & local tax concepts for both direct and indirect taxes.
- Experience in tax accounting, including deferred tax and valuation allowance concepts.
- Proficiency with tax and financial systems, including ERP platforms.
- Ability to conduct online tax research and effectively communicate findings.
- Experience working in a virtual collaboration environment.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Advanced degree and/or CPA certification.
- Experience in a multinational organization with complex operations.
- Industry awareness in a regulated environment.
