Position Overview:
The Ambulatory Clinic Processing Instrument Liaison serves as the key point of contact between clinic settings and the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). This role focuses on identifying opportunities for improvement in instrumentation and case cart delivery processes while enhancing communication between the two departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify gaps in communication and processes between clinics and SPD.
- Serve as a liaison for clinic/SPD personnel and physicians to resolve issues.
- Conduct clinic visits and audits to collect data on:
- Instrument delivery issues
- Tray quality and issues
- Post-case return quality
- Audit trays for bioburden and correctness
- Collaborate with clinical leadership to establish an inventory needs list based on procedural schedules.
- Attend key clinic huddles and review the procedure schedule with clinic/SPD leadership to determine instrument needs and communicate them to SPD.
- Provide daily feedback to managers and SPD regarding issues and operational barriers.
- Perform instrument audits to ensure accurate and complete delivery of instrument sets to clinics.
- Verify that all required trays and instruments are present on designated procedure days.
- Ensure the correctness of instrument sets based on defined preferences.
- Collaborate with the SPD educator to provide proactive instrument maintenance, care, and handling in-service.
- Maintain and update the instrument tracking system in clinic settings, educating clinic staff and superusers on its use.
- Generate reports as directed by the SPD Manager, including:
- Inventory
- Tray tracking
- Productivity
- Repair scheduling
- Work with clinic managers to identify instrument needs, with orders placed through the Clinic Manager.
- Establish tracking processes for the receipt of instruments from clinics and the timely return of sterilized instruments.
- Support additional quality and cost-saving processes as defined.
- Collaborate with the Instrument Coordinator to provide subject matter expertise for inventory applications.
- Work with instrument repair companies for any instruments needing repair.
- Assist with data collection to provide reports and KPI metrics to Infection Control, quality assurance, and leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two years of experience in surgical instrument processing as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
- Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (CBSPD or CRCST).
- Two years of experience in surgical instrument processing.
- One year of experience in an ambulatory procedural clinic preferred.

- Proficiency in data collection and reporting.
