Senior Director – Quote Driven Markets (QDM)
The Senior Director role is responsible for leading a sizable team of professionals that develops technology for CME Group markets. The incumbent must be able to solve problems creatively, communicate effectively, and possess the ability to lead others to achieve the critical mission of the team. In this role, you will be the engineering lead for the QDM product with emphasis on ultra-low latency, high availability and extreme throughput along with complex and bespoke RFQ trading functionality. As the engineering lead, you will be responsible for driving and supporting the vision/roadmap and the architecture for the different QDM systems in collaboration with the Architecture and the FX and Fixed Income business teams.

In this role, you will be the engineering lead for the QDM product with emphasis on ultra-low latency, high availability and extreme throughput along with complex and bespoke RFQ trading functionality. As the engineering lead, you will be responsible for driving and supporting the vision/roadmap and the architecture for the different QDM systems in collaboration with the Architecture and the FX and Fixed Income business teams.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and implement technical standards and best practices, development methodologies, deployment processes (including release on-demand) and test (working with Test fluency).
- Define and champion automation solutions by measuring automation and standards
- Monitor and continuously improve team performance measures including Flow, Velocity, and DORA Metrics
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in software development and financial technology, and provide guidance to the organization on emerging technologies and techniques.
- Identify and empower enablers to address technical debt, maintain and improve security while minimizing maintenance costs, facilitate observability and monitoring, maximize capacity and improve performance (partnering with SRE’s and architects) and optimize product infrastructure and software costs
- Provide technical guidance and support to Product Owners and Product Managers
- Provide technical guidance and support to Product Owners and Product Managers
- Influence Solutions Architecture decisions
- Work with Domain Architects to influence a robust development infrastructure for pod teams
- Act as subject matter expert to inform cross-functional teams (pods) to ensure alignment of technical solutions with business and customer requirements
- Accountable for team outcomes by facilitating delivery and coaching delivery teams.
- Manage global team members working under the direction of Product Owners to deliver value to customers.
- Talent Enablement – Manage engineering team members to ensure talent needs of pods and product teams are met.
- Fosters a Generative Culture by encouraging inquiry, welcoming new ideas, treating failures as opportunities to improve, encouraging messengers to be transparent (don’t punish bad news), accepting responsibility for shared outcomes, implementing novelty, embracing experimentation, and collaborating across cross-functions.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related discipline is required; or
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant proven work experience that is required for the specific job level.
- At least 5 years of cumulative experience in the area of Technology supporting Fixed Income and Foreign Exchange Markets trading.
- Proven track record of managing high impact broad range IT programs.
- Incumbent must have at least 10 years of experience in the engineering function with at least 5 years in a management capacity leading high-performance team building distributed systems using Java, Oracle, and messaging systems in a Linux environment.
- Preference will be given to candidate who has worked in an agile environment in financial industry.
- Strong understanding of the business of Foreign Exchange and Fixed Income trading is a must.
