SALES REPRESENTATIVE - US DISTRIBUTION (Hybrid in Suffolk, Virginia or remote if located on the Eastern Seaboard)

CMP supplies the recreational and commercial marine industries with a broad range of products for various industry segments, including anchoring & ground tackle, corrosion, dock & boat accessories, and steering & controls. CMP manufactures and distributes products under the brands, Martyr, Rocna, Vulcan, Titan, Panther, Dock Edge, Octopus, Intellisteer, Sanitation Equipment and, Trollmaster.
DESCRIPTION:
The US Distribution Sales Representative is responsible for managing and developing sales for all existing and new US and Caribbean/ SA accounts in conjunction with our existing rep agencies. The Sales Representative assumes responsibility for (old & new) customer relationships and service. Contributes to knowledge of competitive information, new business and new opportunities. Assists in processing and follow up of customer orders. Solves problems by providing technical and product related solutions. Strives to maintain and increase profitability throughout all product lines. Creates, researches and understands new business opportunities in these markets. Supports development of all new products as requested.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Account Management:
- Sells to and maintains direct contact with all accounts; promotes positive relations with all customers.
- Maintains profit margin targets.
- Maintains sales growth targets.
- Works with all applicable rep groups to establish and maintain professional relationships.
- Continuously updates the CRM for both existing and new account communications
- Actively travel the territory to assist in the development and management of the customers
Sales Prospecting:
- Identifies and evaluates new market opportunities through direct contact with potential new customers as well as through our independent rep groups.
- Develops a good understanding of the competitive market and identifies opportunities that allow building new market share.
- Contributes to preparation and Attends trade shows as required to promote the company’s proprietary products and services. Follows up on all sales leads and opportunities within 1 week of scheduled event.
- Responds to inquiries from potential customers accurately and expediently.
- Diligently leads distribution of and follows up on proposals and negotiates all programs and pricing.
- Secure and follow through initial sales orders to completion.
- Actively travel the territory to assist in the development and management of the targets
- Must lead through our direction in the accurate distribution of pricing and programs
Strategic Planning:
- Sets annual sales goals and objectives and reviews them frequently to ensure sales performance meets or exceeds established budgets.
- Sets annual Gross Margin goals and objectives and reviews them frequently to ensure Gross Margin performance meets or exceeds established budgets.
- Continually monitors selling prices by reviewing material costs and exchange rates to ensure target gross margin levels are maintained
- Contributes new business ideas and initiatives on a continuous basis.
Marketing Support:
- Works with Marketing to develop a minimum of 1 news article per quarter
- Attends all required trade shows as required & actively assists in the setup of those shows.
- Conducts a minimum of 2 seminars a year (internal or external).
- Sends out Customer Satisfaction Survey per our SOP
- Assists Marketing in their efforts to promote new products through various promotional channels
- Must be involved in show preparation
Reporting:
- Provides regular activities reports to the National Sales Manager and VP of Sales on a weekly basis
- Provides yearly business development plan to the VP of Sales for following year no later than November 30th.
- Assists in the annual sales and marketing planning process as determined.
Administration:
- Helps AR with collection issues as required.
- Submits expense reports within 2 weeks of return from a trip.
- Prepares and submits all tradeshow reports within 1 week of return.
- Assists in the accuracy and timeliness of system pricing for the territory.
Safety:
- Promotes safe work practices as outlined in the worksafe regulations.
Quality:
- Ensures the Company’s quality policies and procedures are followed.
- Supports the internal Quality Audit Process by facilitating the closure of any outstanding Quality reports.
Team building:
- Attends and participates in 1X1 meetings with the National Sales Manager
- Identifies training based on the needs of the position and company and ensures training is completed as agreed to
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3 to 5 years of sales experience in manufacturing, preferably in the marine industry.
- 3 to 5 years of account management and customer relationship management experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience attending and setting up trade shows, in some cases independently
- Valid passport with the willingness to travel within the continental USA for 30-50% of the year
- Proficient in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. (Experience with Zoho CRM would be an asset)
- Proficient in ERP (visual ERP systems would be an asset ), computer software, particularly MS Office (Excel and Word) and PowerPoint
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business administration or sales
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strong communication and public speaking skills
HOURS:
- Core hours Monday to Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, plus weekend work when there are trade shows
- Hybrid in Suffolk
