Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts reviews/audits of physical damage estimates on open claim files to ensure Building Damage Estimating Guidelines are applied and sound estimating practices are followed.
- Oversees and contributes to the re-inspection program including the management of the re-inspection process for our staff, Independent Adjusters and Building Consultants, including thoughtful selection of re-inspection files and ensuring thorough and consistent estimate audits.
- Personally conducts on-site and desk review re-inspections of damaged properties to ensure Claim Professionals and vendors have properly estimated physical damage, including, but not limited to, scope, quality, materials, measurements and proper repair method and recognition of recovery opportunities. In addition, assesses the Claim Professional’s selection and oversight of vendors engaged on the claim.
- Provides TPA oversight, ensuring that our TPA partners adhere to guidelines and building estimating standards. At times, may provide staff oversight assistance to management team.
- Continuously strengthens technical knowledge of construction techniques, estimating skills, building codes, and regulations by conducting training and mentoring of our field staff. This entails partnering with the Property and Marine Consulting Director of Claim Strategy and Execution on determining training needs/opportunities.
- Responsible for increasing technical capabilities of our internal staff so the dependency on independent adjusters and building consultants is appropriate and cost effective.
- Creates a continuous improvement culture by identifying and recognizing trends realized through re-inspection and open file review findings.
- Aggregates field re-inspection and open claim file review results into scorecards for performance tracking metrics.
- Establishes regular communication cadence to senior leadership, field management, and staff on actual performance in comparison to performance expectations.
- Partners with Corporate Investigations and Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to recognize and identify potential fraudulent activity on part of insureds or their contractors, staff or independent adjusters, and vendors.
- Partners with the Property and Marine Consulting Director of Claim Strategy and Execution to take action regarding poor performing vendors and/or contractors.
- Takes the lead on developing and implementing improvements in policy, practices, procedures, and guidelines as well as enhancements to training.
- Ensures that aggregated estimating data is accurate and complete, including data provided through Xactware products.
- Contributes to and drives the completion of Property and Marine department-wide initiatives as needed, supports the organization with ad-hoc tasks relating to compliance and technical excellence.
- Leverages data to develop industry trends reporting and analysis which is delivered at the senior leadership level.
- Capacity to assist with catastrophe events.
- Typically Director or above
- Solid technical and estimating expertise, claims resolution skills and knowledge of insurance and claims principles, practices and procedures.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of commercial structural estimating, including reconstruction and mitigation.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge to complete and audit estimates within Xactimate.
- Ability to train, coach, and mentor field staff and field management on the ability to use both Xactimate and Xactanalysis.
- Ability to train, coach, and mentor the field staff and field management on industry trends and current commercial structure techniques that may affect the commercial structural estimating process.
- Ability to provide immediate feedback and on-the-job training to field staff and field management while conducting estimate reviews.
- Excellent communication, presentation and coaching skills, with the ability to convey technical issues in a clear, concise and effective manner to all levels of personnel and outside audiences, including facilitation of learning and development of claim staff.
- Ability to work independently, managing time and resources to accomplish multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Advanced analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to encourage creativity and innovation.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
- Demonstrates the ability to assess and manage ambiguous situations and issues.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
- Ability to travel outside territory to assist other offices with catastrophic events and/or staff shortages.
- Ability to be available for catastrophic (CAT) deployment, often times on short or limited notice to other locations for periods in excess of two consecutive weeks. Work schedules occasionally include weekend hours, overnight, holiday work hours, and other travel.
- Ability to adapt to change and value diverse opinions and ideas. Ability to achieve results by taking a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives.
- Ability to demonstrate superior customer service with all internal and external customers.
- Experience and ability to manage independent adjuster and building consultant firms.
- Bachelor's degree, in a related discipline, or equivalent.
- Typically a minimum of seven to eight years of related work experience.
