This Managing Director leads a severity team of five senior level claim professionals that directly handle the highest exposure claims in CNA's Financial Lines unit across the Management & Professional Liability portfolio, with an emphasis on Public and Private D&O, Fiduciary, Financial Institutions D&O and E&O and Transactional Liability. This critical people leading role ensures the effective execution of claims handling practices and leads ongoing efforts to drive operational initiatives and continuous improvement. Accountable for the overall quality, customer service delivery and productivity of the team.
JOB DESCRIPTION :
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines :
- Leads and directs the work activities and has full management responsibility for the performance of the severity team. Exercises full management authority, including performance reviews, pay decisions, recruitment, and other personnel actions.
- Oversees the most complex investigations of claims, liability and damages and determines claim strategy, including if a claim should be settled or litigated. Actively leverages data and analytics to develop and direct the execution of litigation management and resolution strategies.
- Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with internal and external business partners including Underwriting, Actuary, Operations and Risk Control and regularly shares claims outcomes, trends, legal developments and other relevant business updates.
- Responsible for the ongoing management of staff by attracting talent, setting clear direction, providing appropriate guidance, managing performance, recognizing contributions, and developing capabilities.
- Ensures quality by assuring compliance with best practices, and developing and delivering training as needed.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $87,000 to $178,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
