What are the responsibilities and job description for the Victim Advocate position at CO 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office?
Colorado’s 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is located in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado. We are committed to our community and our mission to administer justice, advocate for victims and partner with law enforcement and citizens in this community in the deterrence and prevention of crime. The office has a staff of 250 employees comprised of attorneys, investigators, and support personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.A. in social sciences field; minimum of two years’ experience working with victims, preferably in a law enforcement environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of the psychological nature of victimization, including delayed stress, domestic violence and grief.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and ability to work with individuals under difficult and stressful conditions.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office databases.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of community agencies and the services available through these agencies.
- Bilingual English/Spanish ability a plus.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Provide on-going support to victims until their court case is closed. This support will include, but it is not limited to, court orientation, greeting witnesses upon arrival at court, accompanies victims during court proceedings, and hearing notification if requested.
- Contact victims of violent crime and their families as they progress through the criminal justice system.
- Provide crime victims and families with information on the availability of emergency assistance and on-going social services.
- Assist victims in applying for victim compensation, filling out victim impact statements, employment issues, and understanding of the Victims’ Rights Amendment.
- Work as a team with the attorney and paralegal assigned to the case in order to provide the best possible outcome for the victim and the criminal justice system.
- Obtain victim information for the Department of Corrections, Parole Board, Attorney General’s Office, and others as requested.
- Maintains accurate statistics on the number of victims, number of contacts, type of contact, and type of crime for all contacts.
