What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemical Lab Technician position at Co-operative Plating Co.?
An immediate opening is available for an experienced chemical lab technician with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. This is interesting work involving process control of metal treatment baths, troubleshooting process issues, waste treatment chemistry issues and submitting some regulatory reports.
Since 1923, Co-operative Plating Co has provided metal coating services to machine shops, metal stampers and manufacturers of metal products. We offer over 100 processes at our facility including a variety of metal plating and anodizing services to impart properties to metal parts such as improved corrosion resistance, increased hardness and improved attractiveness.
Job Qualifications:
This position requires the ability to work effectively individually and with other team members. This employee must display a strong understanding of chemistry, show initiative, and be detail-oriented. Maintaining a positive attitude and courteous demeanor to create a respectful, professional work environment are essential. The successful candidate must be able to perform high quality work with minimal supervision. This position has no management or supervisory responsibilities. Experience with titration analysis, atomic absorption, UV spectrophotometry, and salt fog corrosion testing is helpful. This position reports to the lab manager.

The successful employee in this position will be able to do the following tasks:
Solution Testing
- Perform daily analysis as scheduled
- Calculate process solution additions and corrections
- Notify Lab Manager of any out of range readings
- Notify Lab Manager of needed supplies
- Environmental Testing
- Perform water analysis as scheduled
- Record data per lab protocol
- Waste treatment process problem solving
- Notify maintenance of duties needed
- Monitor bath changes and scheduling
- Provide change slips as requested
- Notify lab manager or plant manager of any concerns
- Schedule waste pick-up with outside vendors
Quality Testing
- Perform periodic reliability testing such as salt spray and adhesion tests
- Schedule and assist in the Hearing test
- Other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate.
