Special Education Teacher (K-8) Job Description

Location – Malden, MA

Position Overview:

The School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher for grades K-8. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities, ensuring they achieve academic, social, and emotional success in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction and Curriculum Development:
    • Design and deliver differentiated instruction aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and individualized education program (IEP) goals.
    • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies, lesson plans, and materials to meet diverse student needs.
  • IEP Development and Implementation:
    • Collaborate with parents, specialists, and school staff to develop, review, and implement IEPs tailored to each student’s needs.
    • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Classroom Management and Support:
    • Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
    • Utilize positive behavior support strategies and interventions to address challenging behaviors.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with general education teachers, specialists, and support staff to provide accommodations and modifications in the inclusive classroom setting.
    • Actively participate in team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development opportunities.
  • Data Collection and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and other relevant documentation.
    • Use data to inform instruction and contribute to school and district improvement efforts.
  • Compliance and Professionalism:
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education laws and policies.
    • Maintain confidentiality and act as an advocate for students with disabilities.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Massachusetts licensure in Special Education (Moderate Disabilities, K-8).
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience working with students with diverse needs and abilities.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with inclusive practices and co-teaching models.
  • Proficiency in behavior management and intervention strategies.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a school setting, including moving about classrooms and assisting students as needed.
