Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Student Support:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs.
- Provide engaging, differentiated instruction in core academic subjects while addressing students’ unique learning styles.
- Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies to support students with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, and other exceptionalities.
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote a positive and structured classroom environment.
- Work closely with general education teachers, therapists, and paraprofessionals to support student learning.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and goals.
- Participate in IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and data-driven instructional planning.
- Conduct formative and summative assessments to track student progress.
- Maintain accurate records of student achievements, behavior, and interventions.
- Adjust instructional strategies based on data and student performance.
- Ensure adherence to state and federal special education regulations (IDEA, Section 504, etc.).
- Maintain confidentiality and advocate for students’ educational needs.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special education.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Certification: New York State Special Education Teaching Certification (Grades 5-9 or 7-12) required.
- Experience: Prior experience working with middle school students with disabilities is strongly preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
- Ability to create individualized and inclusive learning environments.
- Excellent collaboration and communication abilities.
- Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Structured Teaching, and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL).
- Familiarity with assistive technology and multi-sensory instructional strategies.
- Proficiency in using IEP software and data collection tools.
