Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Works under the direction of the charge nurse and other licensed personnel to provide nursing care within the objectives, standards, and policies of the department. Is responsible for the distribution of medication according to the physicians order and plan of care. Cooperates with all members of the nursing team and other departments as it relates to the care of the resident.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates the ability to accurately administer medications, observing the six rights; Right resident, Right medication, Right dose, Right time, Right route, Right documentation.
- Demonstrates the ability to record information concisely, accurately, and completely.
- Responsible for all medications on assigned cart. Performs narcotic count with oncoming shift and relinquishes keys to on coming shift.
- Demonstrates the ability to administer breathing treatments as ordered by the physician.
- Demonstrates the ability to check and record blood pressure and pulse accurately, and re-check as necessary.
- Demonstrates the ability to report any unusual condition or reaction to the charge nurse.
- Demonstrates the ability to prepare and administer medications using Punch, Initial, Give (PIG) method.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform skills, i.e. Foley cath care, peg tube-stoma site care, hang tube feedings as ordered by physician. Attach skills check-off list documentation.
- Demonstrates the ability to stock medication cart as necessary.
- Demonstrates the ability to keep medication room and treatment cart clean and in order.
- Demonstrates the ability to re-order medications to ensure medications are readily available at the time of administration.
- Adheres to all standards and policies of Infection Control.
- Serves as a preceptor to all new personnel, assists in orientation of new personnel.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist Nurse Aides as necessary to ensure continuity of care.
- Demonstrates the ability to properly perform simple skin/wound treatments and/or assist RN or LPN with more complex treatments as indicated.
- Performs any other duty as assigned.

Must have CMA Certification
