Position Overview:

The Director of Staff Development (DSD) is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of staff development programs within the hospital. This role is key to ensuring that all hospital staff, including clinical and non-clinical teams, are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and professional development to provide high-quality care and maintain the highest standards of patient safety. The DSD will collaborate closely with senior management, department heads, and other stakeholders to identify training needs and create programs that align with the hospital's strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Development and Implementation:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive staff development programs aimed at enhancing the skills and competencies of all employees, including clinical and administrative staff.
    • Ensure the development of targeted training for new hires, ongoing employee education, leadership development, and specialized skills training.
    • Create orientation programs for new employees, ensuring a smooth transition and a strong foundation for success.
  2. Training and Education:
    • Oversee the design, coordination, and delivery of training programs in key areas such as clinical skills, customer service, leadership, compliance, and hospital policies.
    • Ensure all training initiatives are aligned with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and best practices in healthcare.
    • Utilize a variety of training methods, including in-person sessions, e-learning modules, workshops, and simulations.
  3. Needs Assessment and Continuous Improvement:
    • Conduct needs regular assessments to identify gaps in staff skills and areas for professional development.
    • Work closely with department managers and supervisors to determine the training needs specific to their teams.
    • Continuously evaluate and improve existing staff development programs to ensure they remain relevant, effective, and engaging.
  4. Leadership and Team Collaboration:
    • Lead and manage the Staff Development team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to trainers and educational staff.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership, department heads, and external consultants to create strategic learning plans that support organizational goals and improve workforce performance.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth throughout the hospital.
  5. Compliance and Accreditation:
    • Ensure that all staff training programs comply with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and legal requirements.
    • Stay current with changes in healthcare laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure training programs are up to date.
    • Prepare reports on staff training initiatives for accreditation bodies, regulatory agencies, and hospital leadership.
  6. Performance Evaluation:
    • Assess the effectiveness of training programs through evaluations, feedback surveys, and performance metrics.
    • Work with HR and department managers to track employee performance improvements following training interventions.
    • Implement corrective actions as needed based on feedback and performance outcomes.
  7. Staff Retention and Engagement:
    • Promote employee engagement by fostering an environment that encourages learning, growth, and career advancement.
    • Develop programs that support staff retention by addressing professional development needs and aligning career paths with hospital goals.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Nursing, Education, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
    • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in education, training, or human resources within a healthcare setting.
    • Experience in designing and delivering training programs for clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Expertise in learning principles and instructional design.
    • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and compliance training requirements.
    • Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (LMS), e-learning platforms, and training software.
    • Strong organizational and project management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Certifications:
    • Professional certifications in training, development, or human resources (e.g., Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), Certified Healthcare Professional (CHP), or similar) are highly desirable.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position with a standard office environment.
  • Some travel may be required for off-site training or conferences.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required depending on the training schedule.

 

Salary : $160,000
