Rochester Area Foundation (RAF) is a community foundation that since 1944 has partnered with donors to build and improve the quality of life in the greater Rochester area through philanthropy, partnerships, and leadership on initiatives of community interest. Since 1999 RAF has been a community leader creating and funding programs that facilitate the creation and preservation of affordable housing.
Position Overview:
The Coalition for Rochester Area Housing (CRAH) is a cross-sector funding initiative whose mission is to collaborate, invest and lead on innovative solutions to meet our communities’ housing needs. In partnership with the Executive Director, the Administrative and Communications Associate builds relationships with community stakeholders and monitors community housing needs, trends, and innovations. The Administrative and Communications Associate holds the primary responsibility for monthly Housing Alliance meetings including partnering with the Executive Director and Alliance members to develop agendas and foster community participation to inform Coalition housing investment priorities. The Administrative and Communications Associate is also responsible for facilitation of Coalition Leadership Council meetings, organizational data management, coordination of community education events and opportunities, and creating and updating communication content consistent with the Coalition’s Communication’s Plan. The Administrative and Communications Associate reports directly to the Coalition Executive Director and RAF President.
Primary Responsibilities and Task Examples:
- Serve as primary contact for Housing Alliance members, fostering relationships with community stakeholders and developing agendas to enhance community engagement and understanding of housing needs and barriers.
- Assist with development and execute communications strategies and campaigns to highlight the work of the Coalition and its member partners.
- Draft and edit communications copy (e.g., press releases, publications, social media posts).
- Maintain and update web sites, web pages, databases, spreadsheets, social media accounts, answering telephones and providing related follow- through.
- Track projects and media exposure.
- Assist with scheduling meetings and/or conferences by interacting with internal/external clients/partners to coordinate calendars, accommodations, meeting materials and supplies and take meeting minutes.
- Provide project/program support (researching housing issues or questions about policies or practices, coordinating a conference, etc.).
- Assist in creation of accurate and insightful data deliverables that enable Coalition to make data informed decisions and drive action including development of quarterly reports to Coalition Leadership Council, partner organizations and community stakeholders. Leverage tools to craft reports, dashboards, and visualizations for data review.
- Provide general support to visitors/community stakeholders.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or marketing preferred.
- Prior office experience with role in communications preferred.
- Prior experience in the housing industry a plus.
- Highly computer literate with capability email, MS Office, and related business and communication tools.
- Understanding of media relations and digital media strategies and social media and networking experience.
- Ability to multi-task, quickly change direction and independently prioritize work.
- Ability to exercise discretion due to accessing and managing sensitive information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
