TITLE: Campaign Organizer

WORK COMMITMENT: Full-time, Exempt

VISION: CSPL envisions a conscienticized and spiritually rooted movement of people organizing from the grassroots to transform and build liberative and democratic systems in the ongoing journey towards achieving a greater approximation of God’s kin-dom. 


MISSION: CSPL is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-generational spiritually-rooted organization that labors to transform racial, economic, social and environmental systemic structures through grassroots coalition building, community organizing, and liberative formation.   

The Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership (CSPL) is seeking to hire a Campaign  Organizer who will be responsible for continuing to build a powerful organization with a team of talented, passionate and driven grassroots leaders and staff. 

Depending on skills and experience, the role can either be as a campaign organizer, or a more senior position. 

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • The Organizer is responsible for outreach, recruitment, and retention of organizational and individual members through ongoing one-on-one meetings with existing and new leaders and members. This includes building strong working relationships with people of faith, students, community leaders and institutional leaders (clergy, labor, university, organizational, etc). 
  • Recruiting new organizational and individual members; ensuring that the leaders have a full understanding of CSPL’s initiatives and campaigns; and helping leaders maintain an appropriate level of activity to move our campaign efforts forward. 
  • The Organizer plans and organizes public events each year that expands membership, structures the organization, affirms an action agenda and provides major recognition for CSPL. 
  • By working directly with CSPL’s organizing tables and maintaining a disciplined practice of meeting with new and existing CSPL members for 1-1’s, the Organizer will help to identify and develop issue campaigns that build leadership; build CSPL; challenge leaders to work collectively, to develop and carry out effective strategies for actions; and are tied to a bigger picture rooted in CSPL’s mission and vision. 
  • In collaboration with the CSPL staff and member leaders, the organizer will help to develop and implement effective grassroots fundraising and membership development activities.
  • Participate in and help to organize CSPL’s organizing trainings, political education and spiritual/theological formation activities. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability and experience working within a multicultural setting.
  • At least 2 years of relevant campaign organizing experience (Faith, Community, Labor, Voter) a significant plus.
  • Comfortable working with people of all faith traditions and working knowledge of Roman Catholic and Christian faith traditions.
  • The ability to speak a second language is a significant plus.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and public speaking skills.
  • Strong relational skills and ability to connect, engage, and inspire community members across multiple cultures and demographics including economic status, race, gender, age, language and including but not limited to sexual orientation.
  • Capacity to think strategically about social, economic, cultural, political, spiritual and theological issues affecting a community. Desire to learn about community organizing, cultures, politics, history, faith traditions, etc.
  • Openly seeks to understand and critique systems of oppression and is invested in dismantling these systems.
  • Ability to train and support the leadership development of others.
  • Ability to work as part of a staff team as well as independently; thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to support colleagues and provide/receive constructive feedback
  • Ability to identify and partner with local groups such as churches, university groups, social service providers, grassroots groups, and city agencies.
  • Committed to bottom-up organizing, grassroots leadership, and collective decision-making
  • Highly organized, creative and self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Skilled in articulating the vision and mission of the organization

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Competitive salary (based on experience) augmented with a generous benefits package of retirement 403(b), paid vacation, sick, holiday leave, parental leave for the birth or adoption of a child, and generous paid time off. We offer 100% organization covered PPO healthcare with vision and dental. After 5 years of employment staff are eligible for a 90-day sabbatical for professional and spiritual development. The position also includes opportunities for extensive professional development and spiritual formation.  Staff receive an organizationally issued laptop and phone.

WORK LOCATION:

Staff work in both the Western suburbs and in Chicago, IL. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
