Reports To: Executive Director

The Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership (CSPL) is seeking a full-time Deputy Director to ensure that the organization is impactful both internally and externally, providing direction on activities related to strategizing, planning, monitoring, and evaluating programs. This position will supervise the Leadership Team and collaborate on the development and operation of the organization.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for collaborating with the staff and members to build a powerful and sustainable spirit-rooted organization and developing dynamic internal and external processes and strategies for advancing our mission and work.

They will be committed to advancing these efforts within a collaborative, discerning and agile environment.

CSPL is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-generational spiritually-rooted organization that labors to transform racial, economic, social and environmental systemic structures through grassroots coalition building, community organizing, and liberative formation.

CSPL envisions a conscienticized and spiritually rooted movement of people organizing from the grassroots to transform and build liberative and democratic systems in the ongoing journey towards achieving a greater approximation of God's Kin-dom.

What You'll Do

The Deputy Director is responsible for working with the Executive Director, Leadership Team and Staff on the following:

Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation:

  • Works with senior staff to plan, monitor and evaluate organizing campaigns, trainings, membership assemblies and strategy sessions.
  • Establishes and maintains quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards to evaluate the organization's efciency and impact.
  • Oversees the implementation of mechanisms and tools that improve organizational planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Monitors and reinforces the work plans that are implemented by the Directors and beyond.
  • Supports governance and decision-making bodies to participate in the development of Strategic Plans, Annual Operating Plans and ensure progress is monitored through organization weekly and quarterly meetings and the annual
  • Ensures the organization is in accordance with 501c3 guidelines and is monitoring and implementing any updated employment and labor laws.
  • Supports and oversees the annual CSPL Congress and General

Staff and Program Management:

  • Works in constant coordination with the ED to guarantee the organization's overall functionality, impact, and growth, taking on the daily operations in partnership with ED.
  • Supervises the Director's leadership team and ensures the organization's programmatic work is carried out consistently with the Annual Strategic Plan and
  • Supports supervisors, working with the R. management team in addressing and troubleshooting performance issues.
  • Ensures that job responsibilities are clearly communicated and duties delegated appropriately among staff. Communicates healthy accountability during check-ins with staff and establishes appropriate measures to improve work performance.
  • Facilitates the integration between different programs within CSPL for alignment toward maximum impact.
  • Works with the Executive Director and staff to advance the administration and nancial processes.

Internal Coordination & Communication:

  • Prepares with the Executive Director on the staff agenda and facilitates the weekly staff Provides and shares the agenda to the staff in advance and ensures the staff is prepared for the intended agenda items.
  • Prepares with the Executive Director and co-facilitates Director's weekly face-to-face meetings.
  • Supports the leadership team with professional development either directly or through the support of external consultants.
  • Takes proactive steps to improve the organizational culture, minimize delays, address bottlenecks, and create transparency and mutual accountability among

Qualications

Knowledge and Experience

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Master's in Political Science, Public Administration, Social Work, or another Human Services eld
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience working in non-prot organizations and social movements, supervising teams preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with coalition building, labor, or grassroots
  • Knowledge of the various racial, social and economic justice movements and the key issues that people of color and poor and working class families face.
  • Familiar with compliance of 501(c)(3)
  • Strong public relations and fundraising experience
  • Strong prociency in MS Ofce and Google Suite
  • Fluency in English is required; additional language is a

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain rapport with directors, staff members, organizational community members, and supporters.
  • You possess strong interpersonal, relationship-building, writing and communication skills.
  • Problem-solve orientation and/or act as a mediator
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment and take on additional tasks as needed to support CSPL's overall mission.
  • Capacity to work and travel during exible hours in a fast-paced environment, including evenings and weekends, to respond to position needs.
  • You have a track record of accomplishing ambitious goals and getting results even when there are obstacles. You set a high bar and meet it, because you think three (or 30) steps ahead to anticipate hurdles and come up with pragmatic You plan backwards and involve stakeholders appropriately.
  • You have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and to collaborate effectively with staff and members of the organization.
  • You recognize the role of race, income, age, immigration status, and other identities in shaping disparities that dehumanize people and communities, and you are passionate about seeing community leaders organize from a relationship and moral center for more equitable policy and structural solutions.

What Else You Should Know

The position is full-time and is based in Chicagoland. The salary for this position ranges from $90k to $100k, with specific salary depending on experience.
