Overview:
As a Vessel Captain at Coast Line Transfers, LLC, you are the cornerstone of our maritime operations. With overarching responsibility for the safety and efficiency of crew, vessel, cargo, and transfer operations, you embody leadership, expertise, and a commitment to excellence.
Essential Job Functions:
- Operational Leadership: Work as directed by Management or client to uphold the highest standards of maritime operations.
- Navigation and Watchkeeping: Stand wheelhouse watch on assigned vessels, ensuring safe and efficient navigation.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all customer, state, and federal regulatory requirements to maintain operational integrity.
- Safety Management: Execute the Safety Management System (SMS) aboard your vessel, including preparation and facilitation of safety meetings and drills.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) to mitigate potential risks.
- Crew Coordination: Delegate daily tasks to crew members to ensure operational readiness and efficiency.
- Documentation: Accurately complete reports and forms as required to maintain comprehensive operational records.
- Training and Development: Oversee the training and mentoring of crew members, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
- Safety Culture: Follow company and worksite safety policies/procedures, committing to an "incident and injury-free" work environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Direct supervision of all crew members, executing responsibilities in line with organizational policies and laws. This includes training, work assignment, performance appraisal, disciplinary actions, and resolving issues.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 8 years total experience, with at least 4 years in a Captain role.
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Communication: Fluent in verbal and written English language.
- Work Schedule: Ability to work rotational 6 or 12-hour watches and a 14 days on, 14 days off schedule as necessary. Willingness to travel out of state as necessary.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of industry-related software.
Required Certifications or Licenses:
- Merchant Mariners Credentials (MMC)
- 100-ton near coastal master license at minimum
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
- STCW - Basic Safety Training (BST) and Bridge Resource Management (BRM)
- CPR/AED First Aid Certification
- Valid Driver’s license
Physical Requirements:
- Tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
- Frequently push, pull, bend, stand for long periods, and climb ladders with a capacity limit of 300 lbs.
- Lift or carry equipment, supplies, and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
