Position Summary

The Career and Technical Education Associate serves as a link between Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and the academic advising team. This role is responsible for tracking student progress from enrollment to graduation, following up on employment data, and collaborating with college departments such as admissions, student services, and financial aid. The associate will also perform clerical functions and assist the Associate Dean and Dean in preparing reports to support CTE program success and compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:

  • Serve as a liaison between the CTE programs and the academic advising team to ensure students receive guidance and program requirements and career pathways.

  • Monitor student progress, track retention and graduation rates, and identify students needing additional support.

  • Assist CTE students who need an academic plan developed for financial aid.

  • Monitor and evaluate students’ educational progress by conducting academic progress audits as directed.

  • Provide follow-up on employment data for graduates to assess job placement and industry alignment.

  • Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, retention, completion, and employment outcomes.

  • Work with college partners, including admissions, student services, financial aid, and Early College to ensure CTE students receive the necessary support and resources.

  • Prepare reports and data summaries for the Associate Dean of Career Technology and the Dean of Career and Technical Instruction when necessary.

  • Monitor student academic progress via the student early alert system, intervene as necessary to assist those having difficulty and complete required college reports on their progress.

  • Participate and assist students and student support services staff with campuswide events such as orientation, student engagement activities, and other events as needed.

  • Use CRM tools to develop effective communication processes with students and faculty.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Career Technology and the Dean of Career and Technical Instruction.

  • Work with students to prevent/resolve academic transfer credit issues as well as CTE students who wish to transfer to a four-year institution.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution OR equivalent recent relevant full-time work experience (two years of full-time recent relevant work experience for every one year of college).
  • Five years of related experience..
  • Experience in the use of current educational technologies in the workplace including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated skill with social media and online communication tools.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to organize, manage confidential information, and oversee special projects through to completion.
  • Commitment to all students and faculty including those of diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends, as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience advising students in CTE-related professions.
  • An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • An understanding of the broad range of students’ abilities in an open admissions college.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.
Tier I - Pays 7.50% monthly. State matches 13.57% (effective 10/01/24)
Tier II – Pays 6.20% monthly. State matches 12.60% (effective 10/01/24)

Health Insurance
PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA.
