Position Summary

Student Employee – Peer Tutor for TRIO Programs perform tutoring services to fellow students in assigned subject matter. Performance of these duties may be during evening or weekend hours, depending upon the position.

Appropriate placement on the local hourly salary schedule: $11.50 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:
  • Provides subject-specific content to help students through drop-in assistance.
  • Assists students with specific course-related concepts and problems.
  • Facilitates development of effective, related study skills.
  • Conducts one-on-one, small group and/or drop-in tutoring sessions.
  • Demonstrates academic competence in assigned subject matter.
  • May consult with instructor for course resources, guidance, and direction.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Must be a current Coastal Alabama Community College student for the term in which the student is working.
  • May require federal work-study eligibility for work-study positions.
  • Must possess a high level of initiative with ability to follow directions accurately and work independently with little supervision.
  • Must be dependable with a high level of work attendance.
  • Clerical positions require Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Must possess excellent client service skills.
  • Must treat individuals with respect and courtesy.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check.
  • Tutors must have completed class(es) to be tutored with a 3.0 GPA or better or currently enrolled in class(es) to be tutored with an instructor recommendation/referral. Tutors must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or better.

Coastal Alabama Community College is a multi-campus organization and employees of the College may be assigned to work at any of the College worksites, may be required to travel among various work sites for both day, evening, and weekend responsibilities, and must provide their own mode of transportation.
