Position Summary

The Success Coach is responsible for providing high-quality tutoring services for Coastal Alabama Community College students. Tutoring services assist college students by helping them develop academic success strategies. The primary responsibilities of a Success Coach are to support students (tutees) to become more independent learners, persist in college, and reach their goals. Success Coaches provide individual and/or group tutoring to students; meet with students to clarify and review concepts taught in class; explain processes; and help students solve specific problems. Tutoring sessions will support classroom-centered activities, and the emphasis and content of the tutoring sessions are determined by student need and/or instructor referral. Success Coaches work with the Lead Success Coach and instructors to maintain training and professional development.

Hourly Rate(s):
AS or BS degree: $25.00
MS degree or higher: $26.00

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:

  • Provides subject-specific content to help students through scheduled and/or drop-in tutoring sessions.
  • Provides in-person tutoring on campus and virtual tutoring, as needed.
  • Recognizes and adjusts to the different learning styles and student learning preferences.
  • Creates a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences.
  • Uses active listening strategies to allow the student to determine content and pace of tutoring in a kind and direct manner.
  • Utilizes listening and questioning strategies as the primary tutoring method to diagnose student needs and monitor progress.
  • Participates in professional development activities to improve tutorial skill and continue to grow cultural competence and reflection skills.
  • Utilizes feedback and reflection to improve practice.
  • Recognizes primary role to help students become more confident, more successful, self-directed learners.
  • Provides direct assistance in the use of equipment, learning objects, and materials needed for student success
  • Makes appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Prior tutoring or teaching experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Possession of a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to speak in front of groups and present academic and tutorial sessions and engage in outreach activities.
  • Patience and a strong desire to help students achieve their goals.
  • Capable of working as a team member or individually with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to traverse and work on multiple campuses (For the multi-campus positions only).

Preferred:

  • Bachelor degree or higher in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience providing tutorial and/or academic support services for students.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn relevant programs including OneACCS, Canvas, Tutor.com, online learning assistance resources, and student performance monitoring systems.
