What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substance Abuse Counselor (CADC-II) position at Coastal Community Behavioral Health?
Job Summary:
The Substance Abuse Counselor is a counseling professional who provides treatment and support to assist patients in their recovery from addictions, such as alcoholism and drug addiction, and assists our patients with modifying their problem behaviors and working towards long-term recovery.
Schedule: We are looking for both full time counselors. Hours of Operation: M-F 5:00AM - 2:00PM, Saturday 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Job Functions (May Include):
- Conducts and documents initial and on-going assessment of patient’s strengths, bio psychosocial histories, substance abuse and mental health treatment needs
- Under supervision and with consultation of Clinical Director, provides crisis assessment and intervention
- Conducts individual and group counseling sessions under supervision
- May provide case management duties for patients, ensuring individualized quality care
- Through the use of acceptable therapeutic interventions and techniques, assists patients in establishing and reaching treatment goals
- Documents and reports patient progress on an ongoing basis in progress notes, treatment plan reviews and thorough discharge summaries
- Ensures all documentation regarding patient care, treatment and incidents are completed timely and in a clear, concise manner
Qualification Requirements &* Education*
Counselors at Coastal Community Behavioral Health must be graduates of an accredited school and hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a social or health services field. They must also hold be a Certified Addiction Counselor (CADC-II preferred).
Experience
Previous experience with behavioral health, specifically substance use disorders is preferred but not required.
Knowledge Requirements
- Computer literate, with basic knowledge of Office Suite, and electronic medical records systems, as well as a high level of initiative in keeping current with technological change(s).
- Ability to prioritize workload and activities, and follow through on assigned tasks to assure completion in a timely manner.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and switch between tasks quickly.
- High integrity and ethical standards.
- Dependable, able to work under pressure; receptive to change, willingness to learn, cooperative approach to problem-solving
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, and outside contacts from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds; good diplomatic skills; including strong conflict-resolution skills.
- Flexible team player, cooperative and uses excellent judgment.
- Excellent attention to detail, planning and analytical skills.
- Good basic clerical skills including typing, ability to proof own work, good grammar and spelling.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Physical Requirements
- The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk and kneel; occasionally to climb balance, or stoop; rarely to crouch or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
