What are the responsibilities and job description for the STEM Educator position at Coastal Connections, Inc?
The STEM Educator will lead a small team of volunteers in STEM education programs offered to local students in a variety of settings throughout Indian River County, Florida and surrounding areas. It is important for this individual to also serve as an educator in both formal and informal settings for people of all ages and demographics.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The STEM Educator will:
- Create STEM lesson plans for students up to high school age that align with CCinc’s mission and vision and appropriate CPalms standards
- Build relationships within the community by contacting and working collaboratively with local school district teachers, partner organizations, summer camp coordinators, homeschool leaders, afterschool program coordinators, and civic groups to implement programs
- Recruit and train CCinc volunteers to assist in program implementation
- Identify and assist in writing grant proposals that may fund the ongoing needs of the education department and/or new education programming
- Dedicate time in the office one day/week with the Education and Outreach Manager and Executive Director for program planning
- BE familiar with Florida Cpalm standards and have a working knowledge of the structure and programs of CCinc
- Attend and possibly present department or program accomplishments at professional meetings and conferences
- Identify and implement potential methods to improve effectiveness and efficiency in program operations
- Professionally engage with CCinc staff and volunteers
- Professionally engage and coordinate with local, state, and federal authorities
- Assist with public outreach and tabling at festivals and local events
- Give presentations during events to groups of up to 100 people
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Education and Outreach Manager and/or Executive Director

THE STEM EDUCATOR WILL:
- Possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university in Education or a related degree or experience
- Have experience in and be comfortable with working with and managing groups of students
- Have the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time while instructing and interacting with students
- Have the ability to spend extended periods of time in a hot outdoor climate while instructing
- Be proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
- Be mature, professional, responsible, adaptable, and self-motivated
- Have good attention to detail and be very organized
- Have the ability to work well both with teams and independently
- Have the ability to effectively communicate with management, all staff, volunteers, and the general public
- Provide their own transportation and have a valid driver's license and insurance
- Be able to pass a background check if required by the school district
