Bus Monitor

Position Description:

This position is under the supervision of the Center Supervisor and works in a support capacity to the Bus Driver maintaining supervision of children during transportation to and from the Center, on field trips and during health visitis.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

• Works with children to maintain safe and acceptable behavior while being transported.
• Ensuring the use of seat restraints at all times

• Assist driver with teaching correct safety procedures for boarding and exiting bus

• Ensure that all children are greeted by a supervising adult prior to leaving him/her at the designated location

• Report any observations of abuse or neglect

• Engage children in literacy activities during transporting

• Interact with children throughout their time on the vehicle

• Distribute correspondence to parents as directed

• Maintain emergency care files

• Extend classroom learning during transporting

• Complete transportation forms as required

Other Responsibilities:

• Ensuring the safe evacuation of children during emergencies
• Ability to deal effectively with children

• Assist the driver with pre and post-trip vehicle checks

• Closely observe and communicate the children are provided a positive experience during transporting

• Inspect and check vehicle to ensure that no child is left unsupervised on the vehicle

• Reports damaged seat restraints as needed.

• Assists with cleaning of vehicle

• Record passenger ridership information including time schedule of route

• Keep confidential all information pertaining to Head Start children, families and staff

Supervisory Level:

No direct supervision

Employment Standards or Job Requirements:

A high school diploma or GED is required must be able to communicate with children, parents and the general public. Must have a satisfactory criminal background check and drug screen.

Typical Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift 30 to 50 pounds

Typical Mental Demands:

Must be able to communicate written and orally using generally accepted grammar. Possess positive interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions:

Working responsibilities are on a moving vehicle.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week
