Description:
To teach history to diverse audiences at Coastal Heritage Society museums and outreach using a variety of techniques and educational themes, assist in the development and implementation of interpretive programs as instructed by management, provide exceptional customer service, work collaboratively to achieve the mission of Coastal Heritage Society, generate revenue for Coastal Heritage Society by selling its products and services; assist with departmental operations.
Responsibilities:
Historical Interpretation
· Teach history through interpretation of the multiple histories at Coastal Heritage Society museums including structuring presentations, improving interpretation through continued research, and conducting specifically-designed educational programs.
· Use a variety of presentation techniques to meet the needs of diverse audiences and adhere to guidelines as defined by Coastal Heritage Society’s standards of interpretation.
· Interpret and participate in a variety of Coastal Heritage Society events.
Customer Service
· Maintain an appropriate historical environment as needed, including being outfitted in accurate historical impressions for the time period being interpreted.
· Provide exceptional customer service.
Operations and Staffing
· Participate in program and exhibition development.
· Ability to cross-train at multiple locations with various historical topics.
· Assist in training other interpreters.
· Possesses a thorough understanding of museum and program requirements, continually adapting to new developments,
· Well-versed in visitor and employee security and safety protocols, with an emphasis on evolving best practices.
· Work collaboratively to achieve the mission of Coastal Heritage Society.
· Black powder and historical weapons safety (as applicable).
Finance
· Support revenue-generating programs for Coastal Heritage Society.
· Track expenses (as applicable).
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the Mission of Coastal Heritage Society.
Required Qualifications:
· History or history-related education preferred, students welcome.
· Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills.
· Comfortable speaking with public, groups of various sizes, ages, and backgrounds.
· Must be able to read and assimilate information.
· Must be customer-focused.
· Effective problem-solving skills.
· Proven ability to multitask and work with diverse groups of people.
· Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and come into daily contact with pollen, dust, and mold.
· Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and evening events.

§ Much work of this position requires the ability to physically navigate a variety of spaces and terrain, both indoors and out, often in a dynamic space with a historical landscape.
§ Much work of this position is outside, at the physical site location assigned and occasionally at various other site locations of the Coastal Heritage Society.
§ May require bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling and lifting/moving objects of up to approximately 50 pounds for supplies and site-related equipment.
§ Requires ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with a variety of audiences, team members, and guests.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Degree in History, Museum Studies, or other-related field.
· Working knowledge of Georgia and American History.
· Experience developing and delivering programs to public audiences.
· Experience with archival research or working with primary sources is a plus.
· Enthusiasm for continuous learning about history, interpretation techniques, and visitor engagement strategies.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
