JOB TITLE: Occupational Therapist
Coastal Horizons Center has an opportunity for an occupational therapist, providing outpatient counseling services to individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders working with primarily adults in our New Hanover County Program. The New Hanover County office is located in Wilmington, NC.
Provide a broad range of evaluations and assessments related to the services provided by Coastal Horizons in the tri-county area. These evaluations should focus on how occupational therapy services are accessed and how individuals from various targeted populations benefit from these services. Assessing patients' physical, communication, and cognitive skills to develop comprehensive treatment plans. The Occupational therapist works with a multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of the individuals of the assigned caseload.? Must have strong written and communication skills to include building appropriate professional relationships with community partners and referral sources.

80% Direct Services:
Occupational Therapy Care: Provide occupational care to patients. This includes, but is not limited to, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, health assessments, medication education awareness. Ensure patients are linked to ongoing clinical care such as individual therapy, intensive outpatient groups, care management, and prescription assistance programs. Also assists in liking patients to needed community resources including but not limited to the Social Determinates of Health needs; food, (DSS and local food pantries); housing, information for their physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs.
10% Record Keeping: Maintains accurate patient records, completes paperwork in a timely, accurate and efficient manner in accordance with agency standards.
5% Staff Development: Clinical Staffing and staff training and development.
5% Other: Tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor and consistent with employee skills and knowledge.

- REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed occupational therapist – OTR/L; will consider associate licensed clinicians with demonstrated experience.

Additional Information
- Assessing the patient’s physical, communication and cognitive skills to develop a treatment plan
- Responsible for providing occupational services to patients in a variety of clinical settings during scheduled work hours
- Provides assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans in accordance with all federal and state statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession.
- May refer patients to other medical providers for consultation or specialized care for treatment.
- Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on patient’s conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
- Assessing the home, school and work environments of the patient
- Assisting patients’ exercise for pain relief
- Reviewing the patient’s progress and adapting the treatment accordingly
- Performing administrative tasks such as keeping records, writing reports and making telephone calls
- Assist in the execution of the occupational therapy care plan and treatment to patients as prescribed by the evaluating therapist and physician according to the State Practice Acts
- Perform clinical tasks, and communicate and document tasks in a timely and accurate manner
- Follow established policies and procedures as related to the scope of practice
- Perform other related duties as necessary and as directed by supervisor
- Return calls and emails promptly (within 24 hours of receipt or sooner if clinically necessary)
- Actively participate in all agency and department education, training, and in-services to confirm.

Position Highlights
- Preference for candidates willing to supervise others; bilingual; and/or 2-3 years of experience working in a variety of clinical settings.
- Meets requirements under State of North Carolina as an Occupational Therapist
- Experience in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program.
- Skill in establishing rapport with a client and/or family and applying techniques of assessing psycho-social, behavioral, and psychological aspects of the client.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and members of civic, medical, social, and religious organizations.
- Ability to formulate medical and wellness treatment goals and to record concisely required documentation.
- Able to document and navigate EHR independently.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work productively and make independent decisions.
- Ability to foster teamwork and to work collaboratively with other team members and colleagues.
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, reaching, and walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly or frequently to move objects.
- Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
