JOB TITLE: Patient Accounts Representative
Required Educational/Experiential Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED with 2-3 years experience related to responsibilities specified. Familiar with billing concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of health care billing systems specific to the revenue cycle; including procedures, documentation, and standards.
- Previous experience with billing private insurance companies and reading remittances to identify the patient’s responsibilities.
- Customer service experience with handling complaints, providing appropriate solutions for the customer and follow up to resolve any issues.
- Basic computer skills including Excel.
- Strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Working knowledge of cash management principles and/or procedures.
The Patient Accounts Representative is responsible for reviewing patient accounts for accuracy, generating statements, recording payments received from clients via multiple sources (client portals, telephone and mail), responding to all patient questions.
Essential Duties And Tasks
- Answer and manage patient phone calls regarding their medical bills and billing-related questions.
- Provide accurate and clear explanations to patients about their bills and insurance coverage.
- Post and report payments received in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Verify billing accounts with accounts receivable ledger to ensure that all payments are accounted for and properly posted.
- Reconcile client accounts weekly prior to generating statements.
- Report monthly patient revenue.
- Generate financial statements and reports detailing accounts receivable status.
- Maintains a cooperative work environment to foster Coastal Horizons Center's missions and values and to meet goals.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word and Excel); excellent with spreadsheets and medical billing software applications.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently on constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures and operate computer terminal.
