FULL TIME- LEAD PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT- ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY-PRIVATE PRACTICE

Orthopedic Surgery Practice- North Shore Massachusetts, seeking a certified Physician Assistant with previous orthopedic experience to join our general and sub-specialty orthopedic practice. We are located approximately 25 miles outside of Boston.

Qualified candidates for this job will have previous experience working within a moderate to large orthopedic practice, including experience as a surgical first assist and hospital rounding. Candidate will have experience supervising other PA's or the necessary leadership skills to mentor and supervise other physician assistants within the practice.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs evaluations of outpatients, including physical examinations and medical histories, as well as ordering of tests and prescribing medications in collaboration with physicians. Interprets laboratory and test results and communicates results to patients.

Initiates, documents and communicates patient plans of care in collaboration with supervising physicians and follows up to ensure thorough screening and preparation of patients for surgery.

Is expected to perform daily hospital rounds in an efficient and effective manner and will confer with physicians, nursing staff and other care providers effectively in the hospital setting to ensure optimum patient care.

Is expected to complete patient discharges, including discharge summaries, prescriptions and referrals, as well as educating patients on discharge instructions and follow up care.

Is able to present succinct and pertinent information to physicians in order to determine the course of care for our patients.

Performs minor procedures, including suturing, suture removal, cast application and removal, application of splints and braces and instruction, dressing applications and dressing changes, injections, aspirations.

Assists with surgical procedures in the operating room and may perform minor procedures on the unit

Returns phone calls from patients, handles prescription refills.

Dictates notes into EMR. Experience with both Centricity and Epic is preferred.

Educates, instructs and counsels patients in a compassionate and professional manner

Provides leadership and mentorship to other PA's. Seeks to set standards, develop policy and promote excellence and accountability within the department.

Other duties as needed.

The Ideal Candidate:

Will be able to work effectively within a multi-tiered team of medical assistants, physician assistants and physicians, management and administrative staff.

Is open to working with different orthopedic sub-specialties and working in a variety of settings and locations each work week.

Is flexible, able to multi-task and effectively prioritize work and make efficient use of his/her time.

Is a team oriented individual that is open to learning and receiving constructive feedback.

Is a confident leader that has a demonstrated strong commitment to the specialty of orthopedic surgery.

Qualifications:

· We are seeking candidates with a background in orthopedics and a strong commitment to the field. The ideal candidate has 5 years of experience or more working in a orthopedic surgery practice.

· Graduate of a NCCPA Physician Assistant Program

· Licensed in Massachusetts

· Ability to travel to different office locations within a 10 mile radius

· Demonstrated ability to lead and excellent verbal and written communication abilities

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
