JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Cook Assistant
PROGRAM: Head Start
CLASS: Non-exempt
REPORTS TO: Lead Cook
JOB SUMMARY
Assist Nutrition Manager to plan and implement a comprehensive feeding program to meet the nutritional needs of preschool children, following guidelines established by CACFP and the Head Start Performance Standards.
SKILLS BASED FOCUS: Our Agency is focusing on the evolving changes in workforce planning. We are seeking skills-based individuals with the common knowledge and experience that will focus on nurturing talent from within our agency while developing skills and performance.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate the KSA’s below:
1. Ability to follow safety and sanitation regulations in all facets of food handling.
2. Knowledge in preparing and serving family style meals and snacks.
3. Ability to assist with nutrition education activities for children and parents.
4. Ability to assist with program maintenance of all food service equipment.
5. Ability to assist with inventory and food and supply deliveries.
6. Ability to attend all meetings and training as required.
7. Ability to travel to all work locations as required.
8. Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
9. Knowledge and skills in proper methods of food preparation.
10. Ability to establish rapport with children and parents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of one year experience in food preparation and meal service. (Preferred)
- Must be a team player.
- Must have empathy for children and low-income families.
- Must understand and respect confidential information regarding children, families, and the program.
- Must exercise discretion and sound judgement in the performance of assigned duties.
- Must have current driver’s license and have access to use of automobile with current insurance. (Mandatory)
- Must obtain a tuberculin skin test or health card or statement of health from the local health department or physician before employment begins. (Mandatory)
- Must possess a valid first aid and CPR Certificate or obtain within 6 months of employment. (Mandatory)
- Must be able to work at least seven (7) hours a day. (Mandatory)
