About the Coastal Plain League
The Coastal Plain League (CPL) is a premier summer collegiate baseball league that showcases top college players from across the country. As part of our dedicated team, the Roster Management and Operations Intern will play a crucial role in ensuring team rosters are accurate and up to date by reviewing and processing player agreements throughout the season. Additionally, this intern will collaborate with league office staff on various projects, from media and marketing to operations, historical data compilation, and expansion research.
About The Intern Program
Interns in this role will be responsible for reviewing and processing player agreements while ensuring team rosters remain up to date throughout the season. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to collaborate with league office staff across various departments, including media, marketing, and operations, as well as assist with historical data compilation and expansion research.
This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in a professional sports organization, allowing interns to take on meaningful responsibilities while developing the skills needed to pursue their desired careers after graduation.
The 2024 CPL season runs from May 28th - August 12th, with onboarding and training taking place 1-2 weeks prior. The selected candidate will be required to work nights and weekends, covering all league and exhibition games throughout the season, as well as the All-Star event in July and the Playoffs in August. Please do not apply if you cannot commit to these requirements.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Interns will communicate daily with their assigned CPL teams (including weekends) to approve and process any roster moves each team wants to make.
- Maintain an up-to-date spreadsheet of all active and released players throughout the season, as well as ensure league rosters are updated online.
- Distribute official rosters each day after the 1 p.m. roster change deadline.
- Verify player eligibility for both CPL and NCAA regulations as instructed by the league office staff.
- In addition to roster management, interns will assist with various daily tasks around the league office.
- Availability to work during the All-Star event (July 5-8) is required, with travel, hotel, and meals provided.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a program in Sports Management, Communications, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with various software programs.
- A solid understanding of baseball and its rules is required.
- Must be available to work the full season from May 28 to August 12, including holidays and occasional light weekend hours (typically a couple of hours).
- Must have accommodation in Holly Springs, N.C. or the surrounding area for the summer.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of roster management and sports operations (preferred).
- Interest in sports media, marketing, and data analysis.
- Passion for baseball and collegiate sports is a plus.
