Job Title: Executive Director
Organization: Ingleside on the Bay Coastal Watch Association, Inc. (IOBCWA)
Reports To: Board of Directors
Position Summary:
The Executive Director serves as the key management leader of Ingleside on the Bay Coastal Watch Association, Inc. (IOBCWA), overseeing all aspects of the organization’s administration, communication, and strategic planning. Key responsibilities include advancing the organization’s mission through effective leadership and through demonstrated commitment to preserving the quality of life and health of people who live on the Coastal Bend and in the path of rapid, intrusive industrialization. Key skills include community organizing, fundraising, and environmental advocacy. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors, staff, donors, and community stakeholders to ensure IOBCWA’s long-term sustainability, operational efficiency, and positive impact. This position requires a dynamic leader who is comfortable working within the community, serving as a catalyst for change, and ensuring programs and strategies align with IOBCWA’s environmental and community-oriented goals.

1. Strategic Thinking
The Executive Director will envision the organization's long-term goals and direction, develop and implement plans to achieve them, and review and adjust direction when necessary. This person will also be able to identify opportunities that reflect the organization’s values and objectively assess situations to make sound decisions.
2. Leadership
The Executive Director will be a proven leader in their respective community and have the skills to create relationships and collaborate with others to achieve the organization’s mission. This person is passionate about sharing the organization's mission and successes with the broader community. Internally, this person will understand the importance of culture in an agency and how to build it. This person will have the ability to manage professional relationships effectively, including mediation and negotiation skills.
3. Strong Communication Skills
The Executive Director strongly believes in transparency and open communication. This person will have strong interpersonal skills and be a strategic communicator, understanding what information needs to be shared and when. This person will be able to communicate concisely and effectively, both orally and in writing.
4. Project Management/Organizational Skills
The Executive Director will quickly learn how the agency’s pieces fit together and how it works. This person will have strong administrative skills, be able to meet deadlines and work at both a high conceptual level and a detailed implementation level. This person will be able to multitask but also know when and how to delegate. This person successfully manages the stress of working in a high-responsibility position.
5. Operational Management
The Executive Director will have experience with and be comfortable and capable of utilizing both internal and external resources to develop, maintain, and update agency infrastructure. This person is solution-oriented and innovative.
Other
Travel 10-15% domestic and internationally and 50% locally for development, meetings, conferences.
Professional Qualifications:
Minimum
- A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- A minimum of five years experience as an Executive Director, nonprofit C-Suite position, executive leadership position, or equivalent experience.
- Personal computer proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office Products (MSWord, Excel, Google, and PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience in community organizing, strategic partnership development, or coalition building.
Other Qualifications:
- Experience with or knowledge of environmental issues and environmental justice.
- In-depth experience and knowledge of trends and best practices in non-profit fundraising, marketing, and communications.
- Passion for advocating for change, empowering community members, and serving the community.
- A good sense of humor

Ingleside on the Bay Coastal Watch Association (IOBCWA) was incorporated in September 2019 by residents concerned about the impacts of sea level rise, rapid industrialization, declining air and water quality, and increased ship traffic near the City of Ingleside on the Bay, located in San Patricio County, TX. Our mission is to “promote the health, safety, and quality of life for residents of Ingleside on the Bay, TX, and surrounding communities through research, education, communication, and action.” Our organization represents a dedicated and diverse group of individuals united by a shared commitment to environmental health and community well-being.
IOBCWA actively engages the community through workshops, regional campaigns, and citizen activism. We collaborate with academic experts and secure funding to guide coastal protection projects. Our efforts extend to public education and legal advocacy, ensuring that residents are empowered to challenge industrial expansion and hold current industries accountable for their environmental and health impacts. We focus specifically on combating harmful industrial growth and ensuring community safety through air monitoring, education, and legal advocacy. By fostering a proactive and informed community, IOBCWA works tirelessly to protect the health, safety, and quality of life for all residents in Ingleside on the Bay and surrounding areas.
Job Details: This is a full-time, hybrid position. Work will be remote and in the Greater San Patricio County community. Because this organization is community-based, it will require flexible, non-traditional hours on occasion. Candidates are expected to reside in San Patricio County or the surrounding area.
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
