The Mechanical Designer plays a crucial role in bringing innovative ideas to life.

Who you are:

You have extensive experience using SolidWorks to create dynamic builds, excellent project and time management skills, and experience seeing projects through from inception to completion. You most likely know your way around a machine shop and have a good understanding of manufacturing processes. You could spend hours watching ‘how it’s made’ YouTube videos showing how different products go from raw materials to final products. Most importantly, you have a growth orientation, a proactive mindset, and strong communication skills.

What you’ll do:

  • Apply principles of physics and engineering to design slot dies and related components such as die positioning systems, vacuum systems, fluid delivery systems, and other related equipment.
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment.
  • Produce three-dimensional models, using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
  • Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, or maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems or processes to meet requirements.
  • Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of engineering processes and procedures.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of standard design practices, empirical data charts, and design checklists.
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
  • Check dimensions of designed parts/assemblies to be used for completeness/correctness and assign numbers appropriately to the designed parts/assemblies.
  • Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery, using computer-assisted equipment.
  • Coordinate with and consult other workers to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.
  • Confer with customer representatives to review schematics and answer questions pertaining to design and installation of systems.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of all work to the highest quality.

What you’ll bring:

  • Mechanical Design technical diploma or four-year Mechanical Engineering degree (or related degree) is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial machine design is required.
  • Expertise in SolidWorks design software required; SolidWorks CAD Design Associate (CSWA) certificate or 2 years of experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with machine design principles and standard manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with electromechanical devices and implementation.
  • Strong communication skills are a must, particularly the ability to prepare clear, concise, professional written and oral communications.
  • Detail oriented with an ability to recognize mechanical design and engineering requirements.
